An architect specializing in restorations, Schwin has slightly revised his 1994 book for those interested in the historically accurate recreation of American interiors dating from 1650 to 1960. For each style, he depicts the typical architecture of the home as well as an example of a room interior followed by a sample board showing the fabric, furniture, color, and accessories found there. A directory of sources includes helpful notations on whether they sell directly to consumers or through the trade. Interior design collections will find the American design styles useful since many design books concentrate on English and French styles. Libraries whose patrons are involved in historic preservation will find this book in demand.
