Iron is Beautiful,
By Theseus "theseus" (US of A) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Decorative Antique Ironwork (Dover Jewelry and Metalwork) (Paperback)
A remarkable, broad, and well-photographed trove of decorative iron which, based upon the images in this book, appears to be the most malleable, subtle, and beautiful substance humans have ever made.
415 b&w plates with over 4500 objects, assembled by the scholar and collector Henry Rene d'Allemagne in 1924. The images are organized into two main categories... Architectural Ironwork - grilles - locks, padlocks, keys - escutcheons - door hinges, door knobs - mountings, handles, pulls - bolts, latches - mountings - and more Small Objects - jewelry and toliet accessories - key rings - handbag frames - boxes, scissors, sewing accessories - religious and liturgical objects - clocks - bindings, notebook covers - furniture - lighting fixtures - and more 415 pp; captions on the objects assembled by editor Ostoia; introduction.

TERRIBLE,
This review is from: Decorative Antique Ironwork (Dover Jewelry and Metalwork) (Paperback)
This book is a total waste
I'm going to be sending it back for a refund. Just a bunch of pics of old stuff - most of it "cast". Un-inspirational - esp if you are looking for smithing ideas !

A great book that I have been using for many years as a reference. Great plates metalworks all the way back to Rome. It's great that it's still so available!
