This review is from: Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life (Paperback)
I was so sold on "Stilettos No More," I ordered nine copies to give as gifts to my friends. Being a middle aged female, I feel like I am part of a special group of women that have learned that we can either choose to laugh or cry ourselves through our adult adventures. Perhaps referring to them as "adult adventures" might bring to mind something a bit more exotic than the subjects covered in these essays, however, they are what they are.
In "Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life," the author writes essays about life events from the perspective of her hysterical alter ego Deedee Divine. She covers just about every topic that there is to cover, including life events involving parenting, grandparenting, being a wife, fitness and health, consumerism and handling the holidays. Through out the humor that is interspersed into her stories, the reader also gets the idea that underneath it all, Deedee is a devoted wife and parent. By learning to laugh at the zanyiness that she has experienced with her family, she is also a much more patient person than most parents are. By sharing her stories with us, she is also someone that brings a lot of light into the world. As I read both of her books, I found that I was not reading them alone. I had to talk to my friends about what she writes about, and a I also shared a few stories of my own with them. These stories came from memories that would pop into my mind as I read her about her experiences. I think that most readers will find themselves doing this. Many will share this book, or gift their friends and families with new copies, others will make phone calls to reminisce about memories that will undoubtably pop up. For example, my next door neighbor is currently laid up with a broken ankle. Not being able to get around easily, she and her mother read exceperts of Ms. Estill's writings to each other. She reported that they found themselves giggling and laughing the whole time. I highly recommned that you buy this book as a gift, whether it be for yourself or someone else, it will truly be appreciated.

"Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life" belongs in the collection of any library strong in humor essays. Outrageous advice on why women won't read maps, health and beauty pursuits, food and fitness, and more make for a series of hilarious comments on the human condition in a zany, fun read perfect for general lending libraries.

Totally Skewed is a wonderful relaxing read with many family stories closely resembling those we all experience. Diana's wit and humorous attitude toward what could have been stressful events and worries will make you laugh out loud, and enlighten your outlook for future situations in your own life. This book is delightful in that you can leave it on your coffee table for others to read a chapter or two or you can pick it up anytime to add a little chuckle to your day. I certainly recommend Totally Skewed Guide to Life.

If we can't find laughter, in these difficult times, with so much negative being thrown at us constantly these days, all is lost! Stop, take a break, and read this hilarious look at how our everyday real life experiences are side splitting funny when we look back at them. From Back Yard BBQ'S gone "slightly" awry, to cross country "Trips", where, well you remember what went on in the back seat, as well as diets you have tried that included hidden treats throughout the house, and of course one of my favorites how does this *@#! Car seat work!!! Get your favorite beverage, sit back, and enjoy a much need break from the stress and worries of today! You deserve a break today.... (Hopefully, McDonalds didn't trademark that!) If you can't identify with these, "Real Life" humorous stories, well you have missed a lot of life! A must read for all.

WOW! DeeDee reminds us that we should never take ourselves or our circumstances too seriously! I laughed out loud when reading about her family, fad diets and off the wall relationship advice. DeeDee proves that "attitude is everything" AND that "laughter is the best medicine". DeeDee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life is a funny, irreverent book which will make you and your friends howl with laughter!

Move Over Erma Bombeck,
This review is from: Deedee Divine's Totally Skewed Guide to Life (Paperback)
Deedee Devine's Totally Skewed Guide To Life by Diana Estill is a delightfully humorous read, especially for moms. The author, writing from her experience of helping four children grow up successfully, two to whom she gave birth and two from her second marriage, has a tongue in cheek way of telling many experiences familiar to every mother. With wit reminiscent of Erma Bombeck, the author will have you chuckling at her wit and wisdom and the philosophy, adopted only in her senior years, that she has enough age to speak her mind frankly and sometimes shocklingly, uncensored. She had pithy commentaries and funny stories about losing weight, shopping, gardening, romance, health and beauty, handling holidays and leisure time. This is a fun read and would make a great Mother's Day gift for young and older moms.

A wonderful gift!,

I received this book as a gift - what a wonderful gift! The author's evil twin, Deedee Divine, has hilarious takes on everything from diets that don't work to families that succeed in spite of themselves. The story about her skydiving step-daughter had me in tears! I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes to laugh and needs relief from the stresses of daily living. I bought one for my Mom too!

As other reviewers have stated -- VERY Erma Bombeck style. I appreciated that. It is an easy one to pick up and put down due to the 'essay' newspaper column style this book is published in. Not side spiltting humor by any means. You'll smile and even let out a giggle, but you certainly won't laugh out loud in public. I consider this the perfect item to have in your collection for those times you are killing a few minutes waiting somewhere.
