Understandable skepticism,
By
This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
If some who hear about this phenomenon are cynical, I think that is perfectly reasonable. Having heard about deeksha I had been skeptical for almost a year, before deciding to investigate (primarily to debunk it). At that time I was a long term seeker of enlightenment, who having sat with several non-dual teachers and read many books, had decided that the seeking was the problem, (or rather, the supposed separate one who did the seeking ie "me"). However when I received deeksha in October 2005, it had an extraordinary effect. In late February 2006 the deeksha energy seemed to cause a remarkable peak state of oneness. A very short time later I was on a plane. I have spent over a month in India where this phenomenon comes from. With me were many people from several different countries and religions, all coming together in oneness. Make no mistake, this phenomenon is now global, and is changing people's lives in an immense way. My experience of the past 12 months tells me that every word written in this book is 100% accurate. I am convinced that this is something unprecendented in human history, and has the potential to significantly and rapidly raise human consciousness and in so doing reverse the the dire situation that exists on the planet today. I would highly recommend going beyond any thorough internet search, and actually receiving some deeksha. And for those who are really serious about their own Awakening, and that of the whole of humanity, go to India and find out for yourself. Peace.

Great Introduction to Deeksha,
By L. Gutierrez (NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
I don't agree with the past reviewer. There are various paths to enlightenment offered by so many authors and spiritual guides, and those paths don't necessarily for work for everyone. I have been to Deeksha gatherings (unlike the other reviewer) and for those that embrace it's practice, have found a sense of awakening. Deeksha is not for everyone, but for those curious about it (considering its widespread practice worldwide), this book is a good introduction to it.

Valuable deconstruction of enlightenment myths...,
This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
This book is another great reminder that we already have everything we need and there is nothing to seek. Far from being a recruitment clarion for a cult in India as one amazon reviewer would have us believe, the book de-mystifies and re-defines the notion of enlightenment from a very pragmatic, personal and useful point of view. I love the fact that all the wisdom from ancient cultures and sages and all the modern self-help books du jour point to the same simple way out of suffering: dis-identification with the mind. Jesus, Eckhart Tolle, Byron Katie, Buddha, and even my dear friend Molli have all in their own words pointed to this significantly powerful truth. We are not our thoughts. The hard part for us in the western world is remembering this after we've put all the books down. Deeksha according to the author (I haven't experienced it directly) may be a way to gradually re-program the brain so that we don't so easily slip back into our forgetful mode. Who knows? I'd be willing to try it. I think that any modality, teaching, energy or bodywork that attempts to help us to spend more time in our higher selves is a valuable and necessary contribution to the world at this time.

This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
This is a "must" read for those who have a vision for a new world. It is painfully clear that what we're doing isn't working. What Kiara and Grace share in Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven seems to be a missing piece that can move us, collectively, toward the quantum shift in consciousness that is needed. The time has long passed for separation, individualism, competition. It's time to recognize our oneness as a human family. We are all in this together. Together, we can co-create the world of our vision and even more than we can yet imagine. To create something new, we have to be willing to let go of our old ways of thinking and doing, most of which grew out of an egoic consciousness. Many wise ones over the centuries have pointed the way to experiencing heaven on earth - the way is Love, Oneness. Kiara's book shows the way we can manifest this dream of unity and peace and much more.

The ultimate adventure,
By
This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
This book changed my life. I read it in 3 days and it convinced me to go to India and see for myself what the movement behind it is all about. While the details still change every week, I found that the experiences written in this book are accurate and that Deeksha is a new technique that can change this world to the better. Read this book and you will experience your mind opening and that is the ultimate adventure.

A must-read for seekers,
By Joyti Singh (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
"What do you say after a search that has lasted lifetimes has ended? . . . When asked to define my highest goal in life, I always said, "Enlightenment." I could never see beyond that. I was so attached to the seeking, the questing, the journeying, that I couldn't imagine my life any other way. Who would I be if I ever stopped seeking? . . . I craved enlightenment."Thus author Kiara Windrider introduces "Deeksha: The Fire From Heaven." The first chapters chart Windrider's journey to enlightenment. He and his partner, Grace, are called to the Oneness University in India, home of the Oneness Movement led by twin avatars, Sri Amma and Sri Bhagavan. Grace and Windrider take a course, including teachings and deeksha: the oneness blessing that helps to change the neurobiological structure of the brain. Grace, a mystic, is awakened, and not in some namby pamby fashion, but the full on, seeing-and-hearing-God-and-other-worldly-beings-like-a-really-good-LSD-trip sort of enlightenment that you sometimes read about. Windrider is envious (who wouldn't be?), but is assured that his awakening will come about too, only it will unfold more slowly so that he's better able to write about it and convey the experience to others. In addition to Grace and Windrider's experiences, the book also includes the enlightenment stories of six others. And there is a conversation with Sri Bhagavan, who answers questions about who he is--an avatar for enlightenment; why he is here--to help usher in a golden age; what this golden age will look like--(paraphrased) better than now (2008). The book also includes short sections that link the Oneness Movement to ancient calendar systems, astrophysics, quantum physics, and neuroscience. And there are the teachings: * There is only one mind--the ancient mind. It is conditioned by separation and duality. * Similarly, your thoughts are not your own thoughts, but downloaded from the thought sphere associated with this ancient mind. * The sense of a separate self is generated by the neurobiological structure of the human brain. * This "self," in experiencing itself as separate, generates cravings, aversions, comparisons, and judgments, which are the cause of suffering. * When the self disappears, suffering ends. When cravings drop away, including the craving for enlightenment, you are enlightened. * The self is an illusion and cannot be enlightened. * Enlightenment is the realization that there is no self to become enlightened. * Enlightenment is a neurobiological process. Early on, Sri Bhagavan speaks of the possibility of a deeksha, or blessing, simply through reading "Deeksha: The Fire From Heaven." As I made my way through the book, this felt more and more true. The teachings help to create a window in the mind that can open to a whole new way of seeing and experiencing life. The prose is good, the content worthwhile, and the promises of the imminent Golden Age make the challenges of the current age more bearable. The benediction is the awakening of the author and those whose stories he tells. It speaks of the same possibilities for us all. Once a certain number of us reach this level, all of humanity will be carried along into the Golden Age. For those who understand the feverish desire to awaken, this book is a must-read.

Enlightenment is given rather than earned,
By
This review is from: Deeksha: The Fire from Heaven (Paperback)
A deeksha is the transfer of cosmic energy from a trained, enlightened being to a non-enlightened being. It's said to be a divine gift of grace which creates a neurobiological shift in the brain. Deeksha usually involves a hands-on transfer of power but can also be transmitted just by being in the company of an enlightened being and through other forms of communication. The deeksha method of enlightenment is directed by an Indian avatar known as Bhagavan. Bhagavan is a common Indian name for anyone who is God-realized, and avatars are divine beings in human form who come to earth to advance humanity in some way and make the impossible possible.Author Windrider defines enlightenment as the realization that "underneath all our separate illusions of reality, there is essentially one soul, one mind, one body, and one consciousness." Enlightenment is not viewed as a spiritual event, but rather as a biological event related to a change in brain chemistry. This books makes the prophecy that once a critical mass of enlightened beings is achieved, "the collective DNA of humanity will change and global enlightenment will occur." Windrider's goal is to quicken this process by making the deeksha transformational tool accessible to all those who wish to use it. The most important feature of this book is the compelling real-life sharing of the enlightenment experience by the author and six others. Reading these contemporary stories about ordinary people fills the reader with "can do" energy. Further contact with the story-tellers is subtly encouraged by providing their personal email addresses. The concept that enlightenment is given rather than earned is grist for the thinking mill. What if you really don't have to be a saint or meditate all day every day for 30 years? Windrider firmly insists no striving is necessary. All we ever have to do is let go of our linear, step-by-step expectations about how and when it should happen and just receive it. "I was expecting enlightenment to be a high, like an LSD trip..." Whereas enlightenment is simply allowing reality to be what it is. To be enlightened is to access the soul directly without the interference of the mind. Windrider's scariest, most woo-woo idea has to do with the push for enlightenment coinciding with the "new creation cycle," which is supposed to start in 2012. This is the zero point in time when evolution speeds up; there's a rise in our base harmonic frequencies; a deterioration of magnetic fields, and it all somehow works together like the perfect storm to cause a 3-day reversal of the magnetic poles. Windrider's interpretation of the 2012 event is linked to predictions of the Mayan calendar that "signify the end of linear time, and represent the beginning of the great cosmic shift." This book is worth reading because it has a clear and persuasve purpose and because it inspires the reader to become enlightened. America's Spiritual Reviewer

Deeksha: The Fire from HeavenBy Kiara Windrider with Grace Sears ISBN 1-930722-70-2, Inner Ocean, 2006 People say there are many paths to enlightenment, which can be quite confusing to the earnest seeker, but I have found that nothing lights the path more brilliantly than "passion" and that is what I found throughout this book. Anyone looking for spiritual energy in a transferable form from one person to another will find six compelling stories about the Deeksha experience, which is explained by Bhagavan and Amma to be a neurobiological event in the brain. The book has contact information for those wanting to have a Deeksha experience.
