5.0 out of 5 stars Will You Go On The Road Again?!? I want more!!!
I bought this book because I love Paula Deen - I wanted to add it to my collection of 'Deen' books!!! I assumed it would just be OK - you know, sons on the coat tails of their mama's fame - well - was I ever wrong!!!

Paula should be VERY proud of her boys - they have done a fine job on their own!!!

To start off - this book is beautiful - picture...

2.0 out of 5 stars What a tease!
First I have to say I love these good ol' Southern boys (and their mama). But as they are gallivanting all over the country having a grand time, they are describing the wonderful food they get to eat, but unfortunately they don't get to share the secret recipes of this wonderful food. They offer up their own versions or something similar but they just don't sound as...

To start off - this book is beautiful - picture perfect - or should I say perfect pictures!!! A nice mixture of food photos - and travel log kind-of-stuff - which makes it fun for the family to page through while I'm experimenting in the kitchen with some of the recipes!!!

And their recipe selection - one recipe is more mouthwatering than the next!!! You're tempted to pack your suitcase - and head over to any one of the down-home joints featured in the pages of this book to see what else they have to offer!!!

It really is a fantastic book - however you want to look at it - food - travel - it's all great!!! The only problem I see - which doesn't have to be a problem - is that they didn't get to all of the states - or even to every corner of every state that they did get to - so it leaves you wanting for more!!!

Simple solution - a follow-up book (and maybe more)!!! I just got this one - and I'm already waiting for the next - that has to say something!!! I'm crossing my fingers that they will see this review - and it will encourage them to continue on their travels!!! And if they ever make it to the Philadelphia area - I've got some hidden treasures of my own I could turn them on to!!!

Botton line - buy this book - you definitely won't be disappointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook to read and use!, June 14, 2007
By
This review is from: The Deen Bros. Cookbook (Hardcover)
I picked this book up thinking a lot of the recipes would be very Paula Deen - lots of butter, lots of cream, you know! Great lady, just a little heavy handed with the 'fats'. Anyway, this book has some great recipes inspired by their travels and the stories included are a fun read. If you like to read cookbooks (as well as use them) this is a book for you. The recipes are fairly simple to complete and the directions are very clear. Ingredients used are easy to come by and substitutions are suggested at times. The recipes range from party fair, bbq, comfort food and yummy desserts. There's also some terrific photos of about 1/3 of their recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've only gotten through the South!!, April 9, 2007
This review is from: The Deen Bros. Cookbook (Hardcover)
I just got my copy - I barely got through the South and I am going to make every recipe!

The pictures are fantastic - the recipes look easy and delicious - and I can't wait to cook myself through the States with the Deen Brothers.

Next book - the Deen Brothers do Europe???

Buy this - you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful cookbook, May 25, 2007

This is a companion book to the Deen Brothers' Road Tasting - While the series shows notable dishes at restaurants all over the country, this book features recipes similar to those they showed on TV. The places Bobby and Jamie went to, make their money shipping and selling their own creations. I would not expect them to give away their secrets - but the recipes in the book are very close to what is featured on the show.
Simple to make, easy to find ingredients. Jamie and Bobby are charming in person, and their personalities shine through in this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Cookin' Meets Good Lookin'!, April 7, 2007
By
This review is from: The Deen Bros. Cookbook (Hardcover)
I'm a longtime fan of the charming Paula Deen, but when her "boys" started appearing on her Food Network show, it really added to the fun. You can tell they love their momma, and that they were "raised right." Bobby and Jamie's new cookbook, based on their "Road Tasted" show, is a visual feast. Great layout and design, combined with to-die-for recipes, make this book fun to page through. The mix of travel detail (photos of the Deen brothers and the folks they meet in their travels and maps, etc.) also sets this cookbook apart. My only mild criticism is that you get hooked on reading about a specialty of one of their new aquaintences, only to find that the recipe for that specialty is not included. Jamie and Bobby often create a similar recipe based on the specialty, but the omission of the main event was a bit of a let-down. Other than that, you'll enjoy reading about their travels from coast to coast, as well as trying some incredible new combinations, such as Crab and Artichoke Quiche and Lime-Marinated Chicken Wings with Avocado Dip, to name a few. Personally, the photos of these two Southern hunks was worth the price! As their momma would say "I was more flustered than Mike Tyson at a spellin' bee!" Paula, your boys have done good!

5.0 out of 5 stars mouth-watering cookbook!, May 16, 2007
This review is from: The Deen Bros. Cookbook (Hardcover)
ROAD TASTED is a great eat-across-America show and this cookbook with its pictures from the places visited brings it all back to the viewer. While the recipes within are NOT the ones from the shows, rather from the Deen brothers themselves, it doesn't take away from the overall cookbook's flare.

The recipes all sound wonderful and there are photos from their trips. Very nice cookbook to use and use again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving it!, April 26, 2007

This review is from: The Deen Bros. Cookbook (Hardcover)
I'm enjoying this cookbook so very much. The DEEN Brothers have put together a FUN and informative cookbook based on their travels throughout the USA. The recipes are very easy to follow and the photos are simply AMAZING! I plan on trying many recipes from this cookbook soon.

PS: Flash forward...I'm adding this Post Script after my review above:

Well, I just tried 3 of the DEEN BROS` recipes and they turned out GREAT: The Shrimp and Salad Sandwiches, plus The "DRY RUB" Baby back ribs, plus the Creamy clam and corn Chowder Recipe.

All recipes are quite easy to follow, just as I had anticipated! Also, the ingredients were easy to find in the local supermarket .

First I have to say I love these good ol' Southern boys (and their mama). But as they are gallivanting all over the country having a grand time, they are describing the wonderful food they get to eat, but unfortunately they don't get to share the secret recipes of this wonderful food. They offer up their own versions or something similar but they just don't sound as good as the foods they described. It is great promotion for the places they visit, because I sure want to track down some of that food myself. Those boys sure know how to have fun!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I thought it was., May 12, 2007
This review is from: The Deen Bros. Cookbook (Hardcover)
The book itself is very nice. Great pictures, etc, but I was expecting to receive a book that had recipes from the places they had been. That is the kind of books I collect. Instead they are recipes from the Deen boys and the Deen family....not that they aren't good recipes, mind you. I guess I felt a little misled on this particular book. Maybe they will do a book in the future and have the recipes from the places they visit. I am a loyal Deen Family fan though. I have all of the books they have published. I have also been twice to their Savannah restaurants - the original one and now the new one and it is over 3,000 miles from my home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for you, You Cutie Pies !!, August 5, 2007

I always admired the boy's mama and have to admit always enjoyed it when they would visit their mama on her show. I was happy to learn that they would have their own traveling food show. I watched every one and must say my favorite was the Coconut strip show. I have to be honest, I purchased this book in hopes of getting that recipe and was a bit disappointed when the recipe wasn't in there. But as I read on, I did find that the book was packed with the boy's (and I'm sure plenty of Paula's) renditions of recipes that they met along their road journey.
