I was interested in this book because of their promotion that the meals are primarily easy, healthy and child friendly. I pretty much agree with it all. Though there are several recipes with a high spice level, there are many mild recipes like the Pesto Chicken with cherry tomatoes and Apple Cider Pork Tenderloin that my child will eat. The cookbook has many informative sections such as the contents of a well stocked pantry as well as great pictures of the whole Deen crew. The "Jack Favorites" section offers a healthy spin on child friendly foods. (I liked the idea of adding avocados to a cheese quesadilla.) Overall I found the cookbook to be well organized, informative and easy to read with uncomplicated, yet appealing recipes.

For once a book that delivers what it promises! Besides the fact that the recipes are great...comfort food like mac n cheese, and new twists like huevos rancheros...it is full of clever little tips that make everything clear and easy. Sometimes, just following a recipe isn't enough...there is always one little instruction that makes a difference in the final product if you don't quite get it. But, with the tips it has proven to be fail-safe, even for me. I am one of those people that can be a disaster in the kitchen...I am always in a hurry and never have enough time. I don't home cook as often as I should. But this book has inspired me to stop the nasty fast food habit and cook something tasty and healthful for my family...and you know...in the end I am saving time. Yippee!

I hesitated to buy another cookbook but I am glad I got this one. The recipes are simple; the ingredients easily obtainable. I was particularly interested in the fish recipes but I also like the kids cooking section; I think my granddaughters will enjoy that when they come for vacation. We will cook together!I will admit being partial to Paula and the Deen family, but nonetheless, I don't buy a lot of cookbooks. This one is a keeper!

The Deen brothers, Jamie and Bobby are chips off the old block of their mamma, Paula. They love food, their profession is working with food and when they go home at night they want to prepare food that is quick, easy and tasty. This is a cookbook that incorporates good food, where to shop, what to use, how to prepare the food and get it on the table quickly. It is all tasty and looks good. They even give us food suggestions for children.

The cookbook starts out with a few words from Jamie, Bobby and mamma, Paula. Then onto staples in the kitchen. A one page sheet full of good info. 'Meats' is the first chapter and it is filled with several recipes for using hamburger- the one that catches my eye is 'Speedy Mini Meat Loaves'- great idea, make it in muffin tins. London broil and pork recipes follow. The one issue I have is that several of the hamburger recipes are loaded with fat. Need to figure out how they stay so slim! 'Poultry' follows and 'Baked Chicken with herbs' seems to be calling me! There are many chicken and turkey recipes. A staple in many families. Onto 'Fish'- the shrimp recipes look delicious and there are many varied forms of fish recipes. 'Grilling' is next. Who of us does not like to grill? The burger and the chicken grilling are sumptuous! 'Pasta and Friends' is next. I think I make the best spaghetti and meatballs around and I would put my recipe in here, if they let me. Lots of good pasta recipes. 'Crock pot Cooking' follows- this could be the best part of the cookbook- beef chili, stew, sweet and sour pork and turkey vegetable goulash sound like the best. 'Main Course Salads'- chopped, pasta, chicken and tortellini salads have my mouth watering. Then we come to 'Recipes for Jack'-'beef fingers, quesadillas, mac and cheese and good things for kids. The last chapter is 'No Fuss Desserts'- strawberry shortcake,cherries jubilee and lots of chocolate.

The recipes that fill this book look very easy. They contain foods that we usually have in our kitchen cupboards and refrigerators. They take a short period of time to prepare. The family will love them. The only caveat is that some of these recipes contain a lot of fat and we may need to slim them down. Otherwise, yummy!

The Deen Bros. Y'all Come Eat

Of all the cookbooks I have & use, the previous two by the Deen Brothers I use constantly & will be cooking Brookes meatloaf tonite! But this one was disappointing...i guess they can only have so many recipes, right?

We received this cookbook for Christmas and every recipe has been a winner (even with my picky 8 year old).

This cookbook is full of quick and easy recipes for those busy nights in our household. The recipes are made with everyday common ingredients that most people will either have in their pantry or will have no problems finding in their local grocery store. I hate when recipes have ingredients that take some searching to find. I'm all about good taste and ease when it comes to cooking everyday meals.

Jaimie and Bobby Deen are charming as ever. They know their way around the kitchen. You can tell that family time is important to them and isn't that part of what dinner is all about? I think most of these recipes are easy enough for a basic cook but are tasty enough for the more experienced cook. The recipes are easy to follow and well explained. They are simple enough that you could involve your kids in the preparation. This would be a great cookbook to use to get that busy family back to the dinner table.

As I said all of Paula's cookbooks will find something for you to love.. they are such nice and easy recipe's to follow and you won't regret it..All of her meals are so bountyful and just full of flavor!!

A lot of recipes for everyday people, with great photos for most of them. I would have given it 5 stars if there were photos for every recipe. You'll want to try all of the recipes either way.
