4.0 out of 5 stars The End Of The Sinclair Sisters Series!!!
Ms. Martin has brought to the conclusion her Sinclair Sisters trilogy, and "Deep Blue" was a very good ending to a series that offered the reader fun locations, strong and determined heroines, and the perfect Alpha male hero to complement them. This story was no different.

I took this read on the airplane with my flight just flew by (pun not intended, sorry)...

2.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTING...
This book had so much potential, but simply didn't deliver. This was a fantastic storyline and the book started out great, but began to fall apart during Conner & Hope's first tryst in bed. This scene wasn't all I had hoped it would be, and all of the love scenes afterward were disappointing as well. It seemed as though Ms. Martin didn't put a lot of thought or time...

4.0 out of 5 stars The End Of The Sinclair Sisters Series!!!, May 2, 2005
This review is from: Deep Blue (Paperback)
Ms. Martin has brought to the conclusion her Sinclair Sisters trilogy, and "Deep Blue" was a very good ending to a series that offered the reader fun locations, strong and determined heroines, and the perfect Alpha male hero to complement them. This story was no different.

I took this read on the airplane with my flight just flew by (pun not intended, sorry) and I was fully engaged as I searched for buried treasure with Hope and Conner, while staying one step ahead of a killer.

Hope comes home to her apartment that has been torn apart by someone who seems to want to use this a warning to back off of the story that she was working. Her fears are confirmed when her boss pulls her off of one story, and moves her to another one. This one involves a treasure hunt, and Conner Reese. Conner is a diver who is in search of a lost Spanish galleon and it's hidden treasure. What he doesn't understand are the feelings he has for the sassy Hope. She's trouble with a capital "T" and he can't stay away. Will he be able to protect her from the danger that has followed her to the islands before a killer suceeds in ending Hope's life? Will Hope and Conner finally allow themselves to find love with each other?

This was a finally drawn story that truly had several different storylines going, but in the end they tied together. Hope was a great character and Conner was truly her equal. Ms. Martin always delivers when she pens her romantic suspense reads, and this story is no different. If you are new to this series, fear not...this is a strong stand alone read. On the other hand if you have been reading all of these books from the first than you won't want to miss this one. This is truly a read that you will want to add to your "summer reading list."

Although I enjoyed "Midnight Sun" and "Desert Heat" more, I think this is a nice wrap-up to the story of the Sinclair sisters.

The reason I didn't enjoy it so much was the fact that Hope wasn't the adventurer that her sisters were. Indeed, even Hope admits that she's a coward. For me, her struggle against men/marriage/Conner went on far too long. So her engagement ended in disaster. She should have thanked her lucky stars she found out what a slime the guy was before the wedding. Instead, she keeps comparing our hero to Richard, the slime. No way. She leaps to far too many conclusions and has a hard time backing off of them. In the beginning, Conn forms a conclusion about her but wastes no time in revising that when he gets to know her a bit better. I do like how she stood up for the old people, how good she was with the boat crew and that she kept on task with her writing. I just felt her angst was a tad overdone. I believe the miscarriage could have been handled a bit differently but, I guess, Ms. Martin needed that to be an essential part of her story.

On the other hand, I adored Conner. Great hero. And the hunt for the Spanish galleon was exciting. I enjoyed that a lot. I don't know that I would ever be brave enough to scuba dive but I enjoy reading about it.

I've read Ms. Martin for years now and really have enjoyed her whole body of work. Some more than others, of course. May she and her word processor continue to turn out good stories.

2.0 out of 5 stars DISAPPOINTING..., January 25, 2009

This book had so much potential, but simply didn't deliver. This was a fantastic storyline and the book started out great, but began to fall apart during Conner & Hope's first tryst in bed. This scene wasn't all I had hoped it would be, and all of the love scenes afterward were disappointing as well. It seemed as though Ms. Martin didn't put a lot of thought or time into them, and they all seemed the same. The chemistry and sexual tension I felt in the first part of the book was lost. The dialog started to lose its way as well and became mundane, however, I did love learning about Spanish galleons; I commend Ms. Martin for her research in this area. To sum it up, this could have been a fantastic read and started out that way, but it seemed to fall apart and started to drag. I agree with other reviewers that Hope's cowardice became annoying as well. I'm sorry to say this isn't a book I would recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars A suspense thriller with a lighter side!, May 17, 2005
This review is from: Deep Blue (Paperback)
I have read some Kat Martin before but not the other Sinclair sisters books. She is a fine writer that combines romance, suspense and some fun. This is the story of the oldest and more cautious in relationships Sinclair sister, Hope. Hope is a Midday News reporter in Manhattan and has been on the warpath since Hartley House, a retirement apartment building, was unjustly condemned. The story opens with the police in Hope's apartment as a neighbor called them. Her apartment has been trashed!! Searched, furniture destroyed, etc. Hope's best friend, Jackie, comes to help her put it to rights. Hope knows she is on the right trail. However, her boss pulls her off the story and sends her on a magazine assignment to the Carribean island, Pleasure Island. There an expedition is trying to find a lost Spanish galleon. The main partners, Brad Talbot, a rich tycoon, and Conner Reese, an ex-SEAL, are working with an archaeology professor to try to determine where the ship went down. Reese is in charge of operations and security and is quite angry when Hope arrives. Publicity is the last thing he wants as he knows tourists and every Tom, Dick & Harry will surround the search area and make it nearly impossible and certainly highly unlikely that the finds and archeological objects will be preserved.

Trouble ensues right off the bat and while Conner and Hope fight and give in to their mutual physical attraction, the danger to Hope grows. For me, finding out the connection between the stories and characters and the way Hope persists until OTHERS are in danger was a joy to read.

The only thing that bugged me in the book was Hope's inability to make the final commitment!! She is definitely more indecisive than her sisters and let past issues interfere a little too much.

Altogether an enjoyable and suspenseful read!!

4.0 out of 5 stars strong suspense thriller, March 30, 2005
This review is from: Deep Blue (Paperback)
In Manhattan, Midday News reporter Hope Sinclair finds her apartment trashed, but nothing stolen and she is no longer covering the Buddy Newton Hartley House story as the newspaper owner has assigned her temporarily to another of his publications Adventurer Magazine to cover a treasure hunt story in the Caribbean. Led by Operations Chief Connor Reese they seek the Spanish gold and silver bearing ship the Nuestra Senora de Rosa which sunk along with three other ships in 1605 due to a late hurricane.

Hope comes on board the Conquest upsetting Connor who was not expecting a woman or a journalist. Conn fears publicity will make the quest more dangerous with amateurs showing up. Hope frets over her attraction to the belligerent Conn, who feels the same way as neither trusts the other gender. As they become acquainted with the courage and caring of the other, Hope and Conn make love. As the search continues and the danger mounts at Hartley House where Buddy is dead and at sea, Conn and Hope fall in love, but neither is ready to compromise.

The third Sinclair sister romance (see DESERT HEAT and MIDNIGHT SUN) is a strong suspense thriller starring a wonderful lead couple and fine support cast especially the crew and the Professor. The story line takes the audience under the sea with an interesting look at underwater salvage especially the Caribbean locale. Surprisingly, the New York subplot enhances the prime Caribbean story line; a tribute to Kat Martin's writing skills. Hope's stubbornness makes her a terrific reporter although she drives readers and Conn crazy with her fear of relationships. Still this is a deep descriptive contemporary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Conclusion to the trilogy, May 2, 2005
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deep Blue (Paperback)
Deep Blue by Kat Martin is a spectacular conclusion to the Sinclair sister's trilogy.

Reporter Hope Sinclair is picked to write a story about sunken treasure in the Caribbean. It becomes clear that the powers that be want her off a corruption story in New York. But Hope is bound and determined to do an ace job on both pieces.

Conner Reese head of the treasure hunting trip, isn't to thrilled to have a pesky reporter along. Conner had hardened his heart against woman but Hope keeps working her way in daily.

When the danger from NY comes couth and threatens Hope, Conner will do anything to protect her.

Conner and Hope both have been burned by loves in the past. Each has to learn to put the past aside and work towards a future.

This book has me enthralled from the get go. The treasure-hunting story was very compelling and intriguing. Hope and Conner had a connection that made you root for them. Their passion was scorching, this is a must read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kind of a drag, April 19, 2005
By
This review is from: Deep Blue (Paperback)
This book was just "okay"...it seemed to drag on and on and on and...you get the picture. I agree with another reviewer that she seemed to dwell on her ex-fiance WAY too long...get over it already! Frankly, she struck me as kinda stupid to have love smack her in the face and she kept fighting it...her rationale made absolutely NO sense to me! I DID appreciate the obvious research that went into this book and the references to real life expeditions...it's kind of nice to learn something new in an otherwise pleasure read. I won't stop reading this author, but I will definitely read reviews before I purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deep Blue, April 7, 2005
This review is from: Deep Blue (Paperback)
The last Sinclair sister to remain unattached, Hope, is given a prime assignment reporting on the next Atocha. Though many suspect she got the job through less than savory ways, in fact, the ulterior motive that sent her there was to keep her out of someone's way. That does not mean that she is out of danger, rather, she finds herself right in the middle of it, and not mere physical danger. The greatest danger is also the greatest treasure, love. Hope's heart is placed at major risk by one of the treasure seekers, Conn. After a rocky start, the two move from simple passion towards deeper waters, but though between them, Hope and Conn can handle the perils of the deep and gunmen, facing a committed love is even more frightening.

*** Nicely wrapping up the Sinclair trilogy with an action packed adventure in an exotic setting, Ms. Martin whisks her readers on an odyssey of romance with strong characters and mind boggling suspense. ***
