Tasmina Perry has been on my must read list for some time now. With her latest release Deep Blue Sea (being her 8th release) out; I was looking forward to delving into another rich and glamorous story. The premise sounds great, with a wealthy couple Diana and Julian Denver seemingly having it all. However, when Julian commits suicide Diana realises she needs to reach out to her estranged sister for help.

Rachel is Diana's sister and is currently living in Thailand following the death of her career surrounding a phone hacking scandal. When Diana reaches out for help, Rachel decides it's high time to try and make amends with her family. And so begins a journey across many countries to find the answers behind Julian's death. As usual Tasmina Perry certainly weaves a great tale; however I had real issues with Diana. Rachel I really liked, especially as she was the underdog, but Diana was just too frail and pathetic for my liking.

With that one small flaw out the way, I can honestly say the story itself certainly didn't disappoint. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue and the more questions Rachel asks, the more questions it raises too. There were a few additional characters I really liked such as Rachel's business partner Liam and her old colleague Ross. There were lost of dark and murky elements to the storyline including affairs, drugs and contested will. Overall it was again what I would rate a success from Perry, however it lacked that certain something to make it a 5 star read from me. Still a solid 4/5 book and one that I think her fans will love.

A whodunnit with a difference. The police believe Julian Denver's death is suicide and that is certainly how it looks but his widow, Diana refuses to accept it. She has more money than she knows what to do with and a huge house in central London and a country estate, so does she employ an ace detective firm? No, she persuades her estranged sister, Rachel to return from Thailand to investigate. But Rachel is not your average sister. She was a top newspaper hack who almost ended up in prison over phone hacking. Before that she helped expose an affair her CEO brother-in-law was having with an 18 year old girl. Hence the estrangement from her sister.

The novel goes through many twists, turns and some dead ends before Rachel is able to discover the unpalatable truth. There are many strands of romantic interest in these pages - from Diana herself to Rachel's relationship with her business partner to Julian's seemingly numerous affairs. These add rather than detract from the main storyline.

Tasmina Perry's real talent is in characterization. She is able to individualize all her characters so that their humanity is all too real and the reader increasingly cares about their well being as the novel progresses. By the end we really want Rachel to get her man and for Diana to find some happiness and closure. We even care if Dot can make a success of her husband's old business.

This is not a great novel and I would describe it as a bit girly. However if you like a good Whodunnit and enjoy romantic twists this is quite a good read.

Deep Blue Sea truly captured my imagination and I was genuinely sad when the story came to an end, despite the deeply satisfying ending that Perry gave us. This is a complex story rooted in reality, yet providing the perfect escape from our own versions of reality. Perry delves into everything from the difficult sibling relationship that we can all empathise with, to the inner workings of the hacker scandal in the press and everything in between. Any author who can make you understand a journalist's motives for illegal hacking has certainly got talent and this is just one of Perry's many.

There is a balance between fast-paced moments of intrigue and suspicion and the slower, more sentimental moments that make you reflect on your own life. She also has a marvellous ability of describing the male characters in just enough detail to spike your interest, while leaving the rest to your individual imagination. She has certainly left me wanting more and I'm going to have to go off in search of the rest of her books now!

Another great novel from Tasmina Perry. Her books just get better and better. This is fast paced, with great characters and hard to put down.

Oh I do love a good secret don't you?
But what is a 'good' secret and what is a 'bad' secret.

Diana and Julian Denver have it all [or so it seems] lovely family home, good solid marriage, son, the works.

Secrets.....

But nothing is what is seems...

Julian suddenly dies....

What of? I hear you asking

Not telling!

BUT Diana has a feeling, all is NOT what is seems.

Secrets....

Nothing is straight forward

Rachel her sister is contacted by Diana, she's a reporter, she needs her help.

She's now an EX reporter and seemingly living the life of luxury....

But

is she?

Secrets....

I loved this book, I love this author, so this was a delight to read, and definitely deserves my full 5 stars.

I would like to thank Headline Via Net Galley for my copy and say sorry I hadn't read it until now, it got lost on my Kindle!
