4.0 out of 5 stars The chill will come
On his fourth CD this Spyro Gyra soloist decides to take some familiar melodies and create an evening at the pops. I know Tom is a talented and innovative keyboardist and you can feel this on the album. Tom knows what he is doing and he does surround himself with some outstanding talent in Jeff Kashiwa, Vocalist Angei, Guitarists Peter White and Chuck Loeb. There are a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the Tom I know
One of my proudest possessions is a picture of me and Tom Schuman, arm in arm after a show in New York City in the band's dressing room. He is such a great guy, especially considering that he is one of the world's greatest living musicians. For me, he is the Pat Metheny on the keys. And he was right, so right to start releasing some of his very own work under his own...

There are a few moments of outstanding work on this project as when he and Jeff get funky on `Fearless Fostic'. Also, the remake of 'Until You Come Back to Me' has a little gospel flair that can get you stomping your feet. Outside of that everything else will not excite you, but the chill will come. If you are looking for a easy listening, likeable, different CD that will grow on you, I believe 'Deep Chill' is it. ~the JazzeOne

One of my proudest possessions is a picture of me and Tom Schuman, arm in arm after a show in New York City in the band's dressing room. He is such a great guy, especially considering that he is one of the world's greatest living musicians. For me, he is the Pat Metheny on the keys. And he was right, so right to start releasing some of his very own work under his own name. I loved his first albums "Nature" and "Into your Heart" because they show his incredible virtuosity and his masterful musical creativity, just as shown on all those Spyro Gyra albums, but a lot more intense and more pure. I am a great fan of Tom Schuman, because he really has given me the chills in all his work so far - until now.

His new "Chills" are nothing like him, instead it is (and I'm terribly sorry to say so) a weak elevator-style music mix. Where is the brilliance, the musical genius? This album sounds like a weak Spyro Gyra imitation, not even close to the original, far from being as noteworthy as anything Spyro Gyra has ever released - and also far from what Tom himself has done so far. Come on Tom ! You can do SO MUCH better!
