One awesome sonic experience,

Following their massive success with GU021: Moscow, widely regarded as one of the best of the Global Underground series, Deep Dish returns with what tops their previous GU set. What strikes me about GU025: Toronto is Deep Dish's focus on soulful vocal tracks. Both discs, in fact, start out with solid vocal tracks. Not that the vocals detract from the etheral progressive house music at all- in fact, much like the Moscow set, the vocals are so set into the background that the next song has already faded in by the time you realize the last track has ended. It's the mastery of mixing, along with the phenomenal track selection and sequencing, that leaves you hitting the "play" button on your CD player again and again with this two disc set. Disc one focuses much more on the future of where Deep Dish believes house music is heading: the dark, gritty, non-waivering progressive sound. "Diamond life" and "Dove (I'll be loving you)" both stand out as blusey soul vocal tracks, blended in with the traditional progressive rhythms. In fact, the Moony remix (by NYC power producers Stephanie K and John Creamer) stands out as one of the best progressive house tracks of the past year. Disc two is perfect for either 1)the background of an intelligent late night house party 2)a late night driving mix, or 3)listening in headphones in a solitary location. The second disc has much more of a tech-house edge, with the vocal tracks just as predominant as the first disc. Personally I can't get enough of the closing track, "Nothing", which closes the set with chopped up vocals brilliantly set to a trance-house hybrid rhythym. Futuristic, to be sure, yet familiar enough to anyone who's a seasoned GU series listener. May I suggest that GU025 may be the best volume thus far in the series, one that must not be missed. Although it may lack the timelessness seen before in the series (read: Sasha's San Francisco set), it is one of the best mix CD's to come across my CD player in recent years, truly summing up the editing and producing skills of Deep Dish, simultaneously capturing the state of progressive house in the early 21st century.

What a fresh sound Deep Dish creates in Toronto GU:025! I loved the first Deep Dish set, GU:021, so I had high expectations for GU:025. I listened to it several times to get a feel and I can say I'm happy with this set. It's strong with lots of house beats and moving dance tracks.I find GU:025 to be very different from GU:021, however. GU:021 drives right through you whereas GU:025 takes you along for the ride. GU:021 is much faster with higher energy. GU:025 on the other hand has steadier sounds more reminiscent of Yoshiesque 2. GU:025 also doesn't have as many smart electric sounds that dropped in on GU:021. But it's not a loss here. In many ways this set has much better longevity to it. GU:021 burns out from its high energy. GU:025 won't wear you down as quickly. The first disc begins with a Yoshiesque 2-like solo vocal on Numb that quickly changes to a rhythmic house beat. As the songs progress the energy builds slowly. The set is consistent and navigates easily through your mind. The songs seem relaxed, mellow, smooth, and calm. Yet Deep Dish seems to have found a set that still packs energy. They have some great songs with carefully placed female vocals. An example is Sacred Dance on disc 1. Other songs with light vocals work well in this mix: Rezin and Doves (I'll Be Loving You) on disc 1 and Way2Tite on disc 2. Disc 2 impressed me as the better of the two initially, but that was on my very first listen. They throw in a great song from Sasha & Junkie XL followed by a Sander Kleinenberg track, Work To Do. The Sasha track, as usual, adds a lot of cheer to this mix with its airy, happy sound. The Kleinenberg track mixes bass with effects and a basic vocal track by Miss Bunty. Track 8 on disc 2, The One I run To by Miro, is another great song with vocals and a haunting beat. The rest of the songs flow simply, from one to another adding up to a good, solid mix. I give it only 4 stars because, while energetic, it misses the clean high-energy of Sasha or Digweed.

It's been a long time coming...but nevertheless Deep Dish delivers us from the static that current house music has become. In an era where electronica music has become so repetetive and boring this release makes it all seem worth the wait. I won't even describe the cd because those of us who know the sound...know it well. I have bought many different labels over the years, and still the "Moscow" discs are never far from my cd player. I couldn't tell you even the names of the albums that I have picked up from these other bland and boring DJ's, but I can tell you which track (by number) that is good on any of the albums put out by these two artists. If you understand the difference between progress and motion... do yourself a favor and pick up these discs. Don't forget about the up-coming supplements to these discs due out on 7/1/03.

DEEP DISH are the best globe-trotting jocks on the planet. Global Underground 025 solidifies that. Even amongst the progressive UK heavy-hitters, DEEP DISH is in a class of their own. Finally, DEEP DISH and the U.S. rise to the top. Don't waste your time with the Yoshi CDs, Global is the sound of DEEP DISH today; Dark, sexy, under-the-influence and relentless. TORONTO takes twists and turns but never loses it's direction. The sound is moody, at times its drowning in the DUB, other times its in the clouds. The track selection is impecable. The sexiest vocals, coupled with bass lines of depths not yet charted by anyone, anywhere. This is House! DEEP DISH is the future. you can quote me on that.

Well, our poor neighbors to the north needed a little lift and a HEAVY dosage of Deep Dish was the answer. I keep asking myself why are these guys so cool. Dubfire and Sharam, that is. This, the 25th and Golden, release from global underground really kicks. The first track Diamond Life is minimalist at heart but the melody from the diva vocals are really, really cool. Deep Dish is all about the groove and they are the soul brothers of the progressive house movement. Their track selection is superior on this outing and I feel overall pretty uplifting. I enjoy their music a lot. It is fresh but at the same time gives me a sense of flashing back to the heady days of old school disco in the late '70s and early '80s. The mixing by these guys is also really good. No 3 minute minimalistic fills that drone on and on which lately has been touted as "real" mixing but rather deftly added changes in direction done at the right time. Deep Dish keep the listener engaged throughout the double disc set. Funky, groovy and still cool. These guys are smooth.

Deep Dish showcase their range and demonstrate why they are leaders in HOUSE MUSIC with this latest entry to Global Underground. As with most 2 cd sets you tend to get 2 different feels and this one is no exception. CD 1 takes the listener through the gardens of chill, lounge and light progressive dance. Standout tunes include: Rezin, In Love, Sacred Dance....the tempo definitely picks up around track 5....I find myself more likely to skip ahead to tracks on this disc than on the other one !! This cd is great for relaxing around your pad or in the bedroom to create a mood !! CD 2 is a wonderful funky, sexy, danceable house mix that is pure fun !! Standout tunes include: Breezer, Work To Do, Krafty, One I Run To, Hoochi koochi, and Nothing (I almost named them all !!)....but its the way the tunes flow from one to the next....build masterfully....that really makes this disc hummmmmmm !!! This cd is great for work ( I'm listening to it right now)...it really keeps your head bobbin' and your legs bouncing !! I also like it in the car or for weekend warm-ups before hitting the clubs !! Deep Dish is right on with this mix.....cd 2 is my fav of the mix and the whole thing is worth a 4 1/2 lollies rating !! Only very slight deductions for slow tempo and lead in on the cd 1 but again its going for a more loungy vibe !! A definite positive addition to any House Fan collection and a must for Deep Dishers !!

Deeply Satisfying & Sure to Please,

I did not know exactly what to expect with this CD. After continually listening to it though ever since I got it (it's been in constant rotation in my car and at home), all I can say is that it is definitely very pleasing to the ear. Deep Dish takes one on a groovy journey with an eclectic mix of songs sure to please even the pickiest of listeners. This CD makes you want to get up out of your chair and dance. The positive energy and upbeat tempos along with the haunting, melodic vocals that accompany certain tracks satisfy that empty feeling many DJ sets leave you with nowadays. This CD will fill that void and will also leave you wanting more...

WOW,

This is one of the best GU cds I have ever heard. 100 times better than their Moscow CD. When I heard that Deep Dish was going to mix the next GU, I was scared about thinking that they were going to include their justin timberlake mix in the set just as they did with DIDO in moscow (they must have charged timberlake a lot of money, otherwise I can't think how could they even get close to him and his lack-of-everything music). But what a pleasent surprise ! this time Deep Dish goes dark and deep and drowns our ears with heavy and sticky bass lines. Over an over a new bassline comes in to blow you away. Lots of tech-house, lots of deep dark house, no commercial cheese. A MUST for any dance music fan.

The anitcipation for this disk to arrive was killing me. Would it be everything I hoped for or a disappointment? But from track one to the very end of disk two....wow, amazing! Thunderous beats and sexy vocals left goose bumps on my skin. A fantasic balance of darkness and pumpn' beats. Each track is just as hard hitting as the last, and leaves you wanting more. The absolute bonus for me was that it was recorded in a club I used to frequent almost every saturday night when I lived in Canada....so I can close my eyes and literally FEEL myslef there at the club!! I can see the lights, feel the vibe, and hear the phenomenal mixes of, one of my all time faves, Deep Dish. You won't be let down if you are a true fan. And newcomers, welcome !!
