the sound isnt the best.but when its all over and both cds have been played and your jaw is off the floor you wont remember the sound quality.MR COLLINS RIPS!!!!!!

There are some BB King tracks on his box set off the "Blues is King" album that remind me of this. First off, the playing on both albums is incisive, cutting, soulful, and spontaneous. IMHO some of the best playing I've heard from BB, and definitely the best I've heard from Collins. The icing on the cake is the ancient, otherworldly quality of the recording. Not "bad" or unlistenable, but completely lacking production per se....lacking concessions to commercialism. No levels tweaked, no retakes, no tracks. This, to me, is what the blues should sound like (I'm a blues snob/nerd- I cop to it. Based on his Alligator recordings, I never thought Collins was great- good sure, but not great. This album proves beyond a doubt that he belongs in the ranks of the Jedi masters: BB, Freddy, Albert, etc.

After recently listening to the Albert Collins '92/'93 live recording, I was sold on this man's style and hardcore driving telecaster, most of my blues collection has always consisted of mainly acoustic blues, Robert Johnson, Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Willie McTell, etc...Albert Collins, "Deep Freeze" is a two disc set focusing on two live shows, The Fillmore West, 1969, and The Macambo Club, Canada, 1973. Other reviewers have already mentioned the audio, it isn't good, it's not remastered, it just sounds "live" like sitting at a table in the back of a jukejoint, no need to worry Collins' guitar majik never wears off, right up 'till the end of the last disc, towards one of the last songs Albert's vocals actually are drowned out. The bottom line is despite the average audio, Collins' unique playing will leave you in awe and keep you mesmerized. Listen for the versions of Jimmy Reed's, "Baby,What You Want Me To Do", and a real funky, "Mustang Sally", believe me when I say these are only small samples of what's in store on this raw blues recording. To my knowledge this recording is the only early Collins available, (pre-alligator label) with the exception of the out of print Imperial set. Albert Collins, I'm sold. Snapper, Recall UK 2005.
