Deep Medicine offers deep insights and practical ideas,
This review is from: Deep Medicine: Harnessing the Source of Your Healing Power (Ions/Nhp) (Paperback)
I always used to wonder why, when we have more information than ever before on how to lead healthy lives, so many people are overweight, unhappy and unhealthy. I still don't know the answer but this book offers great ideas on how to change that. It starts with the simple idea that every thing you do, every decision you make is about health - do you take the elevator or the stairs, do you buy salmon or steak for dinner, low fat milk or half and half - and that you make hundreds of health-related decisions every day, usually without being aware of it. What Deep Medicine does really well is lay out how you can become more aware of the impact every decision has on your life and your health. It doesn't say that you'll always go for the healthiest option, but it does help you understand what you are doing. Equally important is that it helps you ask the key questions, and constantly check in on yourself. It's an easy read, thoughtful, with some great personal stories, and best of all practical tips on how to change. It's the kind of book you should have lying around just so you can dip in and out of it every once in a while, to remind you of what you want to do and need to do.

A practical and helpful guide,
By
This review is from: Deep Medicine: Harnessing the Source of Your Healing Power (Ions/Nhp) (Paperback)
I have been blessed with a healthy, happy, and spiritually fulfilling life, so when I recently turned sixty and took stock of myself, I was surprised to have to acknowledge that I had fallen out of balance somewhere along the way in recent years. The physical activity that I took the most pleasure in (bicycling) was no longer advisable because of its accumulative negative affect on my joints, muscles, and posture. And one of the activities that I recently started (yoga) wasn't working either. In addition, because of my frequent international travel and a recent move, my meditation routine had lapsed. In short, I was out of shape, out of balance and stuck. Dr. Stewart's book has been my trusty guide during my journey back to good health. He understands the roadblocks to personal change and provides simple and practical guidance for overcoming them. With his assistance, I have made several small, yet significant changes in my daily and weekly routines to bring me back into balance. What I do and how I do it is different from before, but that is because I am different than I was before. (A great lesson in impermanance.) In summary, Deep Medicine is an excellent resource for understanding integrated medicine. It would be worth having just for that. If you think you might need a change in your life (which means you probably do need a change), than I say get it right away. Read it with an open mind and see what bubbles up to the surface. Change is inevitible, so why not make it positive and enjoyable.

This book is too general. You would presume by the title that it would house specifics on meditations and other tools used in Noetic studies (in detail). Nothing in this book by William B Stewart MD has taught me anymore then what you learn in your first yoga class. I read this in conjunction with Lynne McTaggart's "The Field" and the "Intention Experiment", both interesting reads. My interest in the area was re-kindled from reading Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" in which McTaggart was referenced. On a far more philosophical but reaching the same conclusion you have "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne.
Whether you believe in a cosmic consciousness, the quantum theories that these things are based on, a god, or just placebo effect, there is something very tantalizing here that seems to ring true. The question most people want to know is how to harness this power whatever it is. Throughout the ages peoples have turned to prayer, meditation, sacrificing to deities, etc. with little or no effect. For myself, I found effective tools to harness this energy. Your energy! Or whatever you want to call it. About 30 years ago I was in a very dark place in my life. Two children, one sickly, and out of a job with no future. I borrowed some tapes from a friend. These tapes were by the much maligned Anthony Robbins and called "Personal Power". They helped launch me in a new career, got me into the house and kind of neighborhood I wanted for my kids. He also wrote "Awaken the Giant Within" and "Unlimited Power"; both in reprint and easy to get. Am I trying to hock his products? No! What I am saying is his books and his other products are totally complimentary to the field of Noetics and will serve you better than Deep Medicine.

This is a great book. I found it really useful to help me begin the process on focussing on self and renewal and the things necessary to build into my own wellness plan. I loved the guidelines that he uses to help you as you move forward on your healing path: Be curious and willing to change, Consider your connection to the all around you and to the greater good, Be generous with yourself, small steps are ok, Your progress deserves acknowlegement and celebration - emphasize and acknowlege what you did do and not just what you didn't do... He discusses how self care is primary and the four pillars of self care: Nutrition, Physical Activitiy, Relationship and community and Contemplation and solititude...Dr. Stewart shares so much wisdom that I found this book to be a great tool to use during my morning devotional time. It is a time when I like to read the Bible and Pray. I enjoy becoming centered on the things that are really important to me and I thought and found, it is great to take a little extra time and use this to get centered on what is important for my body so I can work at being the best that I can be both physically and spiritually. It is an easy read and you are guaranteed to enjoy it. This is a great book and it makes a great gift for the holidays. There are so many who will once again begin their journey to weight loss, perhaps you can encourage them as a friend or family member to begin their personal path to wellness and healing and here is a great book to get started on the journey!

As an avid reader, experienced practitioner and media advocate of the integral health movement, I have great praise for Dr. Stewart's insightful and highly informative book Deep Medicine. What makes this book stand apart from others in the genre is Dr. Stewart's ability to articulate, in a compelling and accessible way, the intimate connection between our personal health with planetary health. The book advances a paradigm of health stating that EVERYTHING we do is either health-creating or health-negating. His ACTION plan and the Deep Minute exercises are easy for anyone to do. I have already recommended this book to many of my clients with great enthusiasm and suggest you make this part of your personal collection.

I enjoyed my time reading Deep Medicine and look forward to putting the pieces in place for my well-being. I appreciated the opportunities to connect to the world around me through the examples and parallels he drew. The personal "every day" stories that Dr. Stewart included and the self-inquiry at the end of each chapter, with its guided reflections, had me actively involved throughout the book. Deep Medicine gave me the confidence that I am capable of "the journey to balance and wholeness of health." Also, as a parent and teacher, I have gained valuable tools to pass on to my children and students. Thank you Dr. Stewart for sharing your wisdom in this valuable read.
