Not what I expected,

Don't get me wrong, it's quite the entertaining romp through a neat little blurb of American history, and I am glad that I own it...but recommending it to just any-ole'-body...I dunno.See, when most people think of 1970's adult cinema, there is that heavy Wow-wow guitar riff that comes to mind. THere isn't a single track like that on this CD. What you do get is a very interesting mix of weird styles that kind of defy explination. Not only that, you might not want to play it when Grandma comes to visit...there is some, um, dialogue, so to speak, in the background of certain tracks that would raise a few conservative eyebrows, and make the neighbors wonder just what kind of freak they're living next to. This CD is two things. One, it's really funny on a campy level. The music just doesn't really make you think of a hot night of passion; it just makes you chuckle at how silly sexuality can get. Secondly, this is a great find for the music history buff. Never before (and hopefully never again) has a style of music like this crept into American culture. This CD is more like a conversation piece than anything else, although it is a must have for anyone plauged by unwanted houseguests. Pop this one into the CD player, and people will definately remember an appointment they have to get to.

A Super Piece of Pop Culture History,
By jeff lister (The Whole Wide World) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deep Note: Music of 1970s Adult Cinema (Audio CD)
For a short twinklingly moment at the beginning of the 70s, adult films almost had the same stature as "real" movies. Thanks to the success of films like "Deep Throat" and "I am Curious Yellow," for a brief time adult films moved into real first-run movie houses. These were movies shot on 35mm film with relatively high budgets. DEEP NOTE: Music of 1970s Adult Cinema captures the excitement and fun of these movies from the golden age of adult film with great soundtrack jazz, soul-jazz, and 70s era rock. Nicely packaged in a folding digipak, DEEP NOTE also features some fun, spicy dialogue. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who enjoys the unusual.

Stick to other labels' soundtrack comps,

...It sounds like someone held a microphone next to a television set. The music selection is interestng and amusing, and the package is nice enough. The track details are sparse. Some tracks identify film titles; some do not, and there is no composer or musician or producer informationThere is a real need for a better version of an album like this... As for this, get it if you really don't care about audio quality. I usually DON'T, actually, but this album still bothers me. I'm sure it will bother a serious soundtrack album collector much more.

funk meets fusion meet dixieland meets sexy porn dialogue,

This review is from: Deep Note: Music of 1970s Adult Cinema (Audio CD)
a good chuck of this CD is long forgotten 1970's porn jazz.not unlike the best Blaxloitation films from the same era. groovy stuff! However, there is also some wacky trad jazz, some of which has some very erotic talking over the top of it. There is also some early space rock/synth pieces that feature experiments with moog and ARP sounds - the beginings of electronica maybe? there's also a few "soundbites" of people talking - not having sex, but talking about it - very funny. if you like Blowfly, you'll dig this too. Kinda something for everyone here: fusion fans, porno film fans, even a little post-rock sound (sort of like Tortoise, Mushroom, etc) , although recorded about 25 years before that genre was invented. Also a few country-rock instrumentals with some cool twang guitar. I just got this CD and I can't stop playing it.

From first-rate funk and soul-jazz to straight-ahead jazz, groovy rock, analog synth stylings and kitschy soundtrack cheese, DEEP NOTE is over one hour (40 TRACKS!) of deeply satisfying instrumental delights from the golden age of adult cinema! Lightly peppered with entertaining dialogue, DEEP NOTE is an extra tasty portion of 1970s underground pop culture... AND A LOT OF FUN!!!! For a "good time" pick up DEEP NOTE!

Horribly, horribly bad sound quality,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Deep Note: Music of 1970s Adult Cinema (Audio CD)
While the selection of music is appropriate for the genre, the quality of the sound is horrible, at best. It sounds like someone held a microphone a few feet away from a speaker playing the audio. Don't waste your money on this considering the expensive price.

Get all 3 volumes while you can,

This comp was followed by 2 sequels:
Inside Deep Note: Music of 1970's Adult Cinema Inside Deep Note 2: Music of 1970s Adult Cinema [BONUS DVD] The sequels are actually better, in sound quality and track selection, so buy them first. "Fuzzy Navel" on the first sequel is my all time favourite, so I highly recommend that volume, but both the sequels have about an equal number of good tracks. The first volume has only half as many good tracks as the sequels, and has distinctly poor sound on some tracks. All volumes feature brief snippets of rude dialogue, so don't play these discs at work or in front of your mum. Unless you want a good spanking. Some of the music is exactly what you'd expect (funky blaxploitation soundalikes). Some of it definitely is *not* what you'd expect. I was quite surprised by the diversity of styles used in these soundtracks. Get them while you can, as these types of comps are rare indeed.

I was lured to buy this album by a reviewer from Sex-o-Rama reviews. The sound quality was poor, the music content was poor. Do not throw away your money, this album is bad.

Listening to Deep Note was interesting and entertaining the way that Weird Al is. After listening to it once not very interesting any more. Not very memorable.
