4.0 out of 5 stars great grunge
I got this album on cd after waiting seven years to find it on vinyl, and it was just as good as i thought it would be.Deep six was originally realeased in 1986 on vinyl on C/Z records. After the breahthrough of grunge in 91-92, it was re-released on cd by A&M records in 1994. Deep six features six seattle bands: Soundgarden, Green river,Melvins,Malfunkshun,U-men and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pre-grunge grunge.
Yet another grunge comp, this one however puts only six bands on display. These were the Seattle groups that supposedly began the genre. As this was originally released on vinyl in the mid/late 80's, these are all fairly raw, yet good. The Green River songs are decent, but that band sounded much better when it eventually became Mudhoney/Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam. I...

Deep six features six seattle bands: Soundgarden, Green river,Melvins,Malfunkshun,U-men and Skin yard.Except for the U-men,these were all the bands first ever recordings. The music is good, with the bands sounding muddy but great.Green rivers 10.000 things is probably the best song, but Soundgardens three contributions are the most interesting with the band sounding nothing like their later efforts. The album stands as one of the best and most interesting documents of the eighties seattle grunge scene. Deep six is probably of most value to collectors, but any fan of Seattle(and eighties underground)-rock should consider getting this.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Could Live With This Record Alone for the Rest of My Life, August 10, 2004
This review is from: Deep Six (Audio CD)
I'm not freaking kidding you, as a fairly hardcore grunger I found this to be the definitive grunge album. Its sludgy, heavy, absurd, wild, angry, loud, varied (look at With Yo' Heart Not Yo' Hands and then The Birds), paranoid, and most of all grungy. Stand out tracks include With Yo' Heart Not Yo' Hands (Malfunkshun), Heretic (Soundgarden), All Your Lies (Soundgarden), 10,000 Things (Green River), Grinding Process (Melvins), The Birds (Skin Yard), and They (U-Men). Goddamnit man, go buy this album now if you are a fan or are interested in grunge in general.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Critical Album, May 27, 2009

For all grunge aficionados, this disc catalogs the first and brightest stars of the Seattle scene in all their uncompromising ferocity. Some of these tracks suck unforgivably. Others hint at undiscovered brilliance long since discarded. Regardless of my critical interpretation, this record delivers an anthropological gift to the world of rock and roll. It provides an aural snapshot into the suburban musical ambitions of a few wannabes, some of whom would continue to superstardom, others who would grace the bargain bin, whether or not they deserved obscurity. It's music for dreamers by the biggest dreamers of the eighties underground. Dig it.

The Green River songs are decent, but that band sounded much better when it eventually became Mudhoney/Mother Love Bone/Pearl Jam. I assumed the Soundgarden tracks were the versions heard on "Ultramega OK" and the "Pump Up The Volume" soundtrack, but in fact they are all near-demo quality, yet nice to hear at the same time. The rest I like, but not enough to make this essential. Overall I'd say a must for the grungiest fans. Others can stick with the "Singles" soundtrack.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too much underground!!, April 30, 2009
This review is from: Deep Six (Audio CD)
I don't know...maybe I'm more into the the 90's grunge but this is an album that compiles a dark and underground grunge sound I'm not used to. Despite there are a lot of bands, the songs are very alike and I simply don't like it...even Soundgarden which I've loved them, sounds very similar to the other bands there...but if you are interested on this kind of sound just let me know and I can sell this album to anyone of you!
