Great music, great sound, July 4, 1999

Not only is the music great, though not revolutionary, but also the story of the final years of Guitar Gabriel during which this album was made is heartwarming and mesmerizing (it is told in the booklet). Sound is great because of the involvement of audio pioneer and musician Mark Levinson (through his foundation) in the mastering process.

A jewel of 20th Century blues ., February 20, 1999

Lets see... how to describe Guitar Gabriel's playing...possibly like slowly turning a jewel, to watch the facets sparkle. The respectful restrained accompanyment is equally brilliant. The vocals reveal the pleasure felt in the sound of the ensemble. Production quality ranks at the top of the industry. Thank you for preserving the talents of one of the great blues artists of our time. P. Poliski

The most inspired lyricist and singer of the post war era, January 31, 1999

This is a tour de force of musical artistry. Gabe's haunting voice which seems to chuckle and weep simultaneously has deeply affected my view of the blues. Gabe pushes this genre's boundaries to the limits. His song "Old Fashioned Love" embodies the inherent timelessness usually reserved for jazz standards. The world needs this kind of music. Every one should own a copy.
