4.0 out of 5 stars Great techno by Toonami, June 6, 2001
By
Mark Twain (Alton, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deep Space Bass: Toonami (Audio CD)
Deep Space Bass has 18 tracks of great beats straight from the Toonami openings and music videos. My only gripe is that it's missing a few of my favorite tunes that should've been on there, but for whatever reason, didn't make the cut. Anyway, here's the full list:

1. Ignition-Toonami opening music I think

2. Gundams Are On Earth- Gundam Wing intro music

3. Anvil Snare Remix-Sailor Moon intro music

4. Dragon-DBZ intro music

5. Information Leak-Another Gundam Wing opening

6. Arabic-Another DBZ opening

7. D&B remix-Midnight Run theme

8. Depth Charge-Blue Submarine No. 6 intro music

9. Tension-Tenchi theme music

10. Prayer-old Toonami intro music

11. Crash Groove-dunno, but it's cool...

12. Puff & Bass-Powerpuff Girls intro

13. Dark Night-Batman intro...?

14. Starwind-Outlaw Star intro

15. Capslock-Ronin Warriors intro

16. Broken Promise-music to the children themed music video

17. Walking Stick-music from the "Technologically Superior" music video

18. Space time-I have no idea...it's not from the Space themed music video like the title implies

All the tracks are the full versions of the songs, so you've probably never heard most of 'em all the way through. There's also a link in the CD to a section of the Toonami site where you can compose your own music videos(not very good, but it's the thought that counts), download some icons, hear a preview of the music that'll be used for "Lockdown"(the next big Toonami event, like "The Intruder"), and watch the music video "Mad Rhetoric". All in all, a very nice CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very Impressive collection of Toonami intros (prolonged), October 30, 2004
This review is from: Deep Space Bass: Toonami (Audio CD)
When I first heard of Toonami's deep-space bass CD, Toonami had long ceased airing on weekdays and became slightly lower in "the best TV block program" category. Despite this, I decided to get "Deep Space Bass." I was feeling nostalgic at the time. To my great surprise the CD is the best collection of Prolonged Toonami intros ever! There are 18 tracks in all on the CD and none of them are even the slightest bit disappointing, however it will take some time getting used to. And as a added plus there is one track never heard on Television:

Track ONE: Ignition (as heard in Toonami's "Advanced Robotics" Comercial) is started off with an introduction by the Absolution's computer AI: S.A.R.A., then the music begins. A very enthralling track. 4/5

Track Two: Gundams are on Earth (as heard in Gundam Wing's Endless Waltz and final airing intro) is just as good! The music is compelling and features bits from the original GW soundtrack! A real treat to listen to! 5/5

Track Three: Anvil Snare remix (Sailor Moon S Remixed Promo theme) is a collection of strange sounds and stereo pumping beats. Its not as good as the first two tracks but earns a thumbs up from me. 3/5

Track Four: Dragon (As heard in Toonami's "Double whammy" Midnight run promo and not a DBZ intro I've heard) is a very strange track to listen to in its entirety, mostly because I'm so used to hearing it clipped and shortened. But all in all the most recognizable parts in the song is the big drawer for me. 5/5

Track Fifteen: Capslock (As heard in Gundam Wing's first Toonami Intro and not the "Ronin Warriors" intro) is the more exciting track to listen to, especially if your replaying the rememberable quotes used in the inro: "What the heck...? That's a mobile suit... its a Gumdam!" By far my favorite track! 5/5

Track Fourteen: STARWIND (As heard in OUTLAW STAR's Toonami intro) is a very melody and fast-paced electronic driven track, with a Japanese dance type sound to it. A keeper! 5/5

Track Six: Arabic (Dragon Ball Z's First T.O.M. 1 Intro) will give you a very nostalgic feeling as you listen to it, the strange assortment of sounds like gongs, drums and strange guitar sounding rift as if you plucked the sting are face passed with the occasional pause; "Goku, why aren't you here?!". 4/5

Track Seven: D&B remix is Toonami's Midnight run intro/promo, that is amazingly more like a dance track from a club than something you'd hear from Toonami (no offense Toonami-faithfuls). Its full of enough pumping bass and sketching beats to keep the heart racing or the mind liking. "Getting Late. Nothing's on and your too tired to hit the sack. Don't worry we're here for you..." 4/5

Track Eight: Depthcharge (Blue Sub 6's Toonami intro) is a strange track to listen to. Behind its music there are pinging noises that Submarine's radar makes when it picks something up and a strange hollow drumming noise. This isn't my favorite intro song but its easy enough to listen to and hard not to like if your a Toonami/Blue sub. Six fan. 3/5

Track Nine: Tension (Tenchi Muyo's Toonami Intro) is yet another one that hits the nail straight on the head. The music is compelling and the almost recognizable Asian instruments are something to smile about. 5/5

Track Ten: Prayer is an older version of Toonami's opening intro and is yet another piece of nostalgia for me, but has a strange beginning to it. Its quite compelling. 5/5

The rest of the tracks (Darknight, Crashgroove, Puff&bass, Broken promise, walking stick, and spacetime) are just as good to listen to. Deep space base gets Five stars. Job well done! --- [a 5 out of 5]

4.0 out of 5 stars nice, but lacking, June 29, 2001
By
Akira (The Tokyo Underground) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deep Space Bass: Toonami (Audio CD)
Overall a good CD, but seriously lacking in the old-school. The best Toonami song ever was their Robotech theme, which is missing. The rest of the songs are nice, though. The CD really shows the changing priorities at Toonami- they're more anime focused and less interested in their old-school toons- Thundercats, Voltron, Robotech, etc. If you've watched Toonami for only a year or two, buy this immediately. If you've been with them since the beginning, however, you may feel a little forgotten.
