When Eisley finally released its third album "The Valley" last year, it felt that finally after years of never-ending struggles with their major label, the band (back on an indie-label) found a second life. I call it Eisley 2.0. The Valley was in my book easily the best material since their early days. Now a year later comes this EP.

"Deep Space" (5 tracks; 19 min.) continues the vigor the band rediscovered on The Valley. Opening track "Lights Out" is an urgent-sounding track. "Laugh It Off" is a slower song, showcasing the beautiful vocal interplay between Stacy and Sherri Dupree. The title track develops from a dreamy start into a hard charging song, just great. The only so-so song on here is "192 Days", which appeared as a demo-track on the "Fire Kite" EP in 2009. But it is compensated, and then some, by the last track on here, "One More Song", which for me is an instant Eisley classic, and the best song on here, period. It features beautiful lyrics like "All my life, I've waited for the day when captured; caught inside. The spiral, spitting image of a book with stages, a tale for the ages, so don't be afraid." Check out in particular the 2 min. mostly instumental outro with "All my life" being repeated in a dreamy tone, just wow. Just this song is worth getting this EP. Interesting is that in the liner notes all tracks are attributed to Stacy and Sherri Dupree, not to the band as a whole (as was the case on earlier recordings) or either of them singly (as was the case on "The Valley").

In all, this is a very welcome addition to the Eisley catalog, and as a stop-gap release while we await the band's 4th album, this will more than do. Eisley will be touring in support of this EP shortly, and is scheduled to make a stop in Cincinnati in late March. You can bet I will be there! Meanwhile "Deep Space" is highly recommended!

These five songs are all excellent and definitely worth the price! I've never been disappointed by Eisley. Folksy, smooth, catchy, and uplifting.

"Laugh it off" is the standout track on this EP. The other songs are good but nothing that I seek out to listen to again and again, though they do grow on you over time.
