Deep Still Blue, the newest release from 2002 encompasses all that we value and love from New Age music and adds an extra dimension with the addition of a video disc in the package. The DVD has some of the most spectacular still photography on the planet compliments of marine photographer Susan Sailbara. In addition, the group has included some full ethereal vocals to the mix. I truly enjoyed Emerald Way, the last album of the husband and wife duo of Pamela and Randy Copus, but after watching and listening it appears that this is their best album to date.

Starting off with a very Enya-esque sounding tune, Where the Stars and Moon Play opens the world of the sea to us. The visuals are stunning. It is as if we are seeing color for the first time in our lives. North of Honduras is the magical world of the Caribbean. Our underwater visit is filled with delicate and delightful creatures that strike our imaginations.

Deep Still Blue the main track is a song featuring gentle guitars, placid piano and layers of voices that carry you away to a secret paradise. Somewhere north of the Coral Sea is a magic world where time stood still longer than any pace on earth. Under the sea, you can still find castles of chalky coral, delicate green dragons, and water bluer than the sky.

Drifting under the Pacific with just a hint of a current, we are gently pushed on the tune An Ocean Apart. This is one of the most relaxed tunes I have ever heard. The music suggests wandering aimlessly under a sapphire sea with just our thoughts. Nothing on the surface can affect us as we drift placidly over a living rainbow of creatures, endless sandy plains, and far away skys of green ocean algae.

There is an astonishing image of anemone that looks like a row of little green mushrooms. More evidence to the magic under the sea. The musical accompaniment to the incredible vision is called Little Angel. 2002 has taken much of the gentleness that the ocean sometimes offers and put it into music. There is a subtext to this song however. It is as if from a distance we are witnessing a sleeping child. This is one of the best cuts on Deep Still Blue.

One of the brightest spots on the album is called Sarah's Rainbow. It is song sung just for the joy of life. The tune is a celebration of triumph. There are days when even the darkest cloud may have a ray of sunshine peaking out behind it.

We return to the surface on the spirited song Setting Sail. Canvas slaps, ropes creak and the jib flutters as the wind pushes on our backs and we move across the ocean in search of new adventure. Friendly voices, glittery guitar and fluid flute combine to warm the air with sunshine and promise.

The Voyage Home, a song with forward motion and no regrets in the notes opens with images of bright orange anemone, khaki-colored pipefish and the sharp ghostly photos of white sea sponges. There is a remote kind of sadness in the tune, but the spirit of the adventure is still with us and it will carry us through for the rest of our lives.

Never has still photography come more alive than under the lens and heart of Susan Sailbara. Despite the burden of personal illness that she has carried for some time, she is still able to see the intrinsic beauty of the world and, in the blink of an eye, capture it for all to see.

2002 has been making terrific music for a long time. I think I may have some of their material on cassette. Deep Still Blue is a labor of love on many levels. There is the love of just making music and the delight of joyous little lives that we are privileged to steward, particularly as parents. Finally the love of the earth in all its forms whether deep ocean or soaring mountain. This is music for the type of person that loves to rejoice in life.

I have been a long time fan of 2002, since their "Land of Forever" album on the Real Music label. It looks like they have ventured out on their own for this own. A pretty good move for us fans. Their sound has grown alot on this album, incorporating more instrumentation and a few vocal pieces - some of my favorite tracks on the album.
I have often thought their music would fit perfectly with video and 'Deep Still Blue' allows the listener to see it. This CD/DVD release is what their music needed! Listen for yourself!

Note to readers: the reviewer who gave this release two stars is completely incorrect - the DVD is a bonus that's included FREE and complements the music with amazing underwater photography. There is no "CD-only" package. Why people don't read the product description before they buy something and/or review it is a mystery to me. On to my review...

I've been an avid 2002 fan since Savitri, their second record, so I was really excited to hear Deep Still Blue. Fortunately, they once again exceeded my (already high) expectations. In my opinion, this is their best work to date. The entire record is consistent, mature, nuanced, lovingly crafted and expertly produced. I only give five-star reviews to records I can recommend without hesitation, and Deep Still Blue is most definitely worthy of the full five stars.

If you're already a 2002 fan, you'll find an evolution of their signature sound that rewards repeated listening - you'll have this CD in your player for a long time and will enjoy it every time you listen. If you're contemplating Deep Still Blue as your first 2002 album, I can guarantee you'll be back to pick up their earlier works as well. Discovering 2002 is like finding a fantastic restaurant in a quiet corner of your neighborhood; you'll keep going back for more and your friends will thank you for letting them in on the secret.

When a person needs a bit of mental and physical time out, and a relief from the stress of life sit take a deep breath and put on the
Deep Still Blue cd and relax and listen......very calming and very easy to get lost in the melody and ride with the ocean waves at least mentally and in spirit!

Randy and Pamela Copus' masterful juxtaposition of original music with the beautiful underwater photography of Susan Saibara is a must have. The bonus DVD is a surprise treasure and needless to say a welcome addition to my collection of soothing, soulful music. A visual as well as auditory masterpiece.

I popped the CD in the player and after a very hard day had the ability to decompress without multiple glasses of Merlot. The music is catchy but not too commercial - a nice blend of styles.

I tell you - these 2 always cranks out some of the best New Age I've ever heard!
I said it once & I'll say it again, there needs to be a New Age Concerto w/ 2002, Enya, & others like them!

The music of 2002 is truly amazing. If you are already a fan, Deep Still Blue will be the perfect addition to their previous albums. If you are unfamiliar with their music why not start here. You not only get a wonderful CD, but you get a bonus DVD with the most spectacular underwater photography providing a visual backdrop to the music as well as some very interesting extras.
Pamela and Randy Copus are truly gifted musicians and I cannot wait to see what they come up with next!

The music is very relaxing and so beautiful...I really enjoy listening to this CD.

The music on this Deep Still Blue is fantastic and in my opinion their best yet. The Bonus CD (BONUS!Did you get that, two star reviewer!)is absolutely wonderful.I thought it might be a slideshow type thing, but was I surprised. The photographs are stills,yet the way the camera moves over the scene slowly makes you forget that they are. The photography is so strikingly beautiful and clear with very vivid colors. Also, the way the pictures slowly fade in and fade out makes it very enjoyable. The music matches the scenes beautifully. In some scenes it looks as if the sea creatures have paused just to listen. You will too. It's hard to imagine just how many thousands of pictures must have been shot just to get the ones chosen for this DVD. And they gave it to us FREE. What a beautiful gift. I hope 2002 makes more DVDs like this. I'm willing to pay extra for them. Maybe the rainforest or outerspace.

Don't put this DVD in if you have to go somewhere or have something that has to get done. Once it starts, you are hooked and time just disappears. When it's over, you won't believe how long you've been gone.

Now I know I will get that big screen tv very soon. Can't wait to view the DVD on one of them.
