Book Description

January 1, 1997
The lure of the siren, the comeliness of the mermaid, the elegiac beauty of Ophelia -- in page after page of captivating paintings by such artists as J.W. Waterhouse, Frederick Lord Leighton, Gustav Klimt, Edward Burne-Jones, and other Pre-Raphaelites, this exquisite volume takes a mystical journey into the deep waters where romantic art flows together with female enigma and timeless mystery. These sensuous images -- many inspired by literary scenes from the likes of Homer's Odyssey, Mallory's Morte d'Arthur, and Tennyson's Lady of Shalott --seduce the eye and beguile the mind, making From the Deep Waters a visual delight and a gift to be treasured.

5.0 out of 5 stars From The Deep Waters, January 2, 2001
By
This review is from: From the Deep Waters (Hardcover)
I spent many hours searching in libraries and book stores for just this type of art book. A spectacular collection of paintings from various well-known artists - a 'must have' for any lover of art! I create and weave my own tapestry designs and am always looking for different types of art books. This one will satisfy my needs for years to come. The color reproductions are true - no 'dulling' of colors due to the printing process. The observations and comments at the end of the book are not only worth reading but quite thought provoking. Buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars An artistry magic into the death of Ophelia..., July 15, 1998
This review is from: From the Deep Waters (Hardcover)
I've read the book once and each of its images captured my imagination. I'm impressed by the romantic ways in which the artists bring out their fascinating subjects. You never imagined that the tragic death of Shakespeare's Ophelia could be so beautiful and breath-taking. It's certainly a book worth keeping, especially for the romantic art lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE ILLISTRATIONS WILL CAPTURE YOUR IMAGINATION., May 11, 1998

This review is from: From the Deep Waters (Hardcover)
After just looking through the book it was very hard for me to forget the images. They are so beautiful. These are the kind of drawings that bring myths and legends to life. These drawings want to make you believe that there were such mythical creatures as Medusa, Nymths, and mermaids.Just by looking at one picture of these works of art makes you wish that the artist would have painted more just like it. It's a must see book.
