5.0 out of 5 stars From The Deep Waters
I spent many hours searching in libraries and book stores for just this type of art book. A spectacular collection of paintings from various well-known artists - a 'must have' for any lover of art! I create and weave my own tapestry designs and am always looking for different types of art books. This one will satisfy my needs for years to come. The color reproductions...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, I hate giving it just 3 stars, but...
I was really under the impression there were more mermaids in this book. There's only a few, really. I just wish I'd known before adding it to my wishlist, that's all.

Other than that small fact/misunderstanding, the book is great, and has some BEAUTFUL artwork, seriously.

I spent many hours searching in libraries and book stores for just this type of art book. A spectacular collection of paintings from various well-known artists - a 'must have' for any lover of art! I create and weave my own tapestry designs and am always looking for different types of art books. This one will satisfy my needs for years to come. The color reproductions are true - no 'dulling' of colors due to the printing process. The observations and comments at the end of the book are not only worth reading but quite thought provoking. Buy this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars An artistry magic into the death of Ophelia..., July 15, 1998
This review is from: From the Deep Waters (Hardcover)
I've read the book once and each of its images captured my imagination. I'm impressed by the romantic ways in which the artists bring out their fascinating subjects. You never imagined that the tragic death of Shakespeare's Ophelia could be so beautiful and breath-taking. It's certainly a book worth keeping, especially for the romantic art lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE ILLISTRATIONS WILL CAPTURE YOUR IMAGINATION., May 11, 1998

This review is from: From the Deep Waters (Hardcover)
After just looking through the book it was very hard for me to forget the images. They are so beautiful. These are the kind of drawings that bring myths and legends to life. These drawings want to make you believe that there were such mythical creatures as Medusa, Nymths, and mermaids.Just by looking at one picture of these works of art makes you wish that the artist would have painted more just like it. It's a must see book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Enough Mermaid Images, June 19, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: From the Deep Waters (Hardcover)
There are only 7 mermaid paintings in this book, given the title I thought there would be many more; the book is nearly 100 pages. You may already have many of the images in books you already own, so I'll list all of the mermaid paintings in this book for you: Hylas and the Nymphs, The Mermaid, The Siren, -J.W. Waterhouse, Calm Sea-Arnold Bocklin, The Depth of the Sea-Edward Burne Jones, Ulysses and the Sirens-Herbert James Draper, The Fisherman and the Siren-Frederick Lord Leighton. If you are expecting lots of mermaids, you'll be disappointed. But there are several beautiful goddess/enchantresses by the sea images. It is a wonderful book as long as you're not expecting it to have lots of mermaids.
