Book Description

July 3, 2007
Sequel to Ghost, Kildar, Choosers of the Slain and Unto the Breach.

Heart-sick over the deaths of so many of his Keldara followers, and one in particular, former SEAL Mike Harmon, hero of Ghost, Kildar and Choosers of the Slain, decides to sit this one out. WMDs headed for the US no longer matter to the Kildar. But when his best friend and intel specialist both are seriously wounded in an ambush aimed at him, the Kildar gets his gameface back on. Mike has always said that he's not a nice guy, and he's about to prove it to a boatload of terrorists and Colombian drug dealers. Set in the Bahamas and Florida Keys, A Deeper Blue is a fast moving thriller that never slows down from the first page. With the return of some old faces, the action-packed novel proves, once again, the adage that sometimes it takes some very bad people to do good things.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

At the start of Ringo's darkly violent fifth Kildar novel (after 2006's Unto the Breach), Mike Jenkins, who's no longer a navy SEAL but still the Kildar, or feudal warlord, of the preternaturally competent Keldara warriors, withdraws into grief after the death of Gretchen Mahona, his lover and fellow soldier. When the U.S. president asks the Kildar to help track down shipments of nerve gas that jihadis are smuggling into Florida, he refuses, but gives permission for his subordinates to accept the mission. After they walk into an ambush, he's spurred to action, returning to center stage as a dangerous man whose humanity is in peril. It's up to the Keldara to guide their leader and friend back into the light and heal the wounds of his soul. Ringo counterbalances the angst with the joyous sangfroid of the pagan Keldara, who have once again become the warriors they were meant to be. (July)

About the Author

John Ringo had visited 23 countries and attended 14 schools by the time he graduated high school. This left him with a wonderful appreciation of the oneness of humanity and a permanent aversion to foreign food. A veteran of the 82nd Airborne, he brings first-hand knowledge of military operations to his fiction. In addition to his nationally best-selling techno-thriller novels about Mike Harmon, his novels for Baen include the novels in the New York Times best-selling Posleen War series (A Hymn Before Battle, Gust Front, When the Devil Dances, and Hell’s Faire), the Council War series (There Will be Dragons, Emerald Sea, Against the Tide, and East of the Sun, West of the Moon), the novel Into the Looking Glass, four collaborations with fellow New York Times bestselling author David Weber (March Upcountry, March to the Sea, March to the Stars and We Few) and three collaborative spinoffs from the Posleen series: Hero (with Michael Z. Williamson), Watch on the Rhine (with Tom Kratman) and the New York Times best seller Cally’s War (with Julie Cochrane).

More About the Author

I'm a professional author of... Well, I used to say "science fiction." Then came There Will Be Dragons, which is sf with a distinct fantasy twist. Then came Ghost which is techno-thriller crossed with porn. Then came Princess of Wands, a Christian soccer mom battling demons through the power of God. Who knows what's next? Children's books? (I've actually got that one mapped out. You see, there's this girl who is raised by dolphins... You think I'm joking, don't you?)

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like your military action frantically authentic, June 18, 2007
By

This review is from: A Deeper Blue (Paladin of Shadows, Book 5) (Hardcover)
Plunge back in to the guilty pleasure of ultra-adventure with the Kildar and his merry band of Georgian warriors and their beer-brewing clans. It's Ultra-Code action across the entire Carribbean as jihadists persist in trying to deliver WMDs to America. Mike's been gutted by the combat death of his personal Valkyrie, but his team tries to carry on without him. Unfortunately, Ghost has some experience and skills which they do not, and the enemy is better prepared this time, so some key members of the Keldara wind up with sucking chest wounds in pretty short order. So let me ask you: What's worse than a heartbroken Kildar drinking his life away in his mountain fortress? A grim and vengeful Kildar on a full roll with nothing left to lose. The action won't stop, and never lets up. In fact, it's so frantic and intense that I thought about knocking off a half-star because I had to take a break to process everything - and that never happens. Then I realized that it's not necessarily a bad thing, dove back in to the book and finished it in one evening. I think you will too. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Expectations, July 5, 2007

I pre-ordered this book in Feb, and I seldom pre-order books. In fact, I seldom pay full price for books (sorry Authors). This story is exactly what I expected and it better never have events in it that are perfectly plausible. That is not what I am paying for. I have gratefully bought everything by John Ringo that I could find, at full price, and will continue to do so. After all, it's probably not his fault he wasn't in the 101st.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, July 5, 2007
This review is from: A Deeper Blue (Paladin of Shadows, Book 5) (Hardcover)
If you have ever read and enjoyed the Destroyer books you'll definitely like this. If you have read any of Ringo's other works, you'll probably like this. Is it high art? Probably not. Realistic? Hell no, but then if I wanted realistic, I wouldn't be reading a fiction book written by a successful fiction author. What it is, is a great read, I finished it the day I got it (reading long into the early morning). John has taken a lot of flak for this series, and all I've got to say is "Lighten up Francis!". There is not nearly as much bondage etc as in the Gor books, and people seem to overlook that the vast majority of the female characters are strong and successful.

Keep 'em coming John, there's still a lot of life in the Keldara!
