Being from Britain, it goes to say that without a doubt, Delirious are missing the praise they deserve. Here they are known as a Christian band full stop, and unfortunatly that seem to have distracted people from the great songs they are plugging.
Admittedly, if you are not a Christian, then this is perhaps not the best Delirious CD to purchase. Recent albums have diverged slightly, covering broader areas of music rather than just traditional worship. It features alot of their earlier material, which is very much focussed on praise to God, so some might find it a bit 'heavy', fair enough if religion isn't your 'cup of tea'.
But, nevertheless this is a great album. It features their best work and it is likely that anyone could relate to the lyrics in some way or another. It also highlights Martin Smith's brilliant skills as both a performer and a songwriter. I have stayed with the opinion for a while that if I could write songs as good, I would die a happy person.

Highlights for me on the album are 'Sanctify', 'Jesus Blood', 'Thank You For Saving Me', 'Shout To The North' and 'History Maker'. The music is deep in places, heavy in others, but this fails to distract from the lyrics. Take time and listen to the music AND lyrics as a whole instead of two separate components and you'll find the prize very rewarding.

Most of the time, when a "Best Of" collection comes out, the loyal fan who already owns all of the band's previous work would be shafted buying it. This double set is definitely worth getting, and is the exception to that rule. The remake of "I Could Sing of Your Love Forever" is the best "new" song on the first set, and is actually better than the original in my opinion. The only TRULY new song in the set is "Not Be Forgotten" on cd 1, and it's a good one too. Some of the more obscure Delirious songs are on here ("Hands of Kindness", "Obsession", etc), which makes this a real treat. They have their mega-hits on here too though, so the real fan won't be disappointed. The only thing I have to say I don't like is the fact that this is called the "D:finitive Worship Collection", yet they don't have a single song from "Glo" ("Jesus' Blood" doesn't count because it was redone for "Glo" and the version on here is the one from "Mezzamorphasis"). That stops it from really being the "definitive" collection, but it is a nice double cd set and definitely one worth getting.

A few years ago I was at a Christian music festival in PA (CreationFest). There was a pretty good amount of publicity at the festival for a band that I had not heard much about, Delirious. They started playing around 8:30 or so and as Emeril says, BAM! Wow. I was smitten. As soon as I got back home, I started the task of getting my hands on as much material from this new (at least to me) band.

The discs do not have filler and it includes a few re-worked tracks from their earlier days as Cutting Edge. The range of the band to go from (my personal favorite) "Obsession" to "What a Friend I've Found" means that you can listen to (any of) the CDs without hitting the skip button, which is a rare thing these days. This is a group that has been richly blessed. They feed my spirit, help in my walk with my Savior and are light in a dark world.

The D:finitive set would make a perfect Christams gift, but I could not wait the few months. Get this disc, some of their earlier releases and give them to friends that you know are looking for a straight up worship band with a edge harder than what you hear in the pulpits.
