Book Description

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY LIBRARY JOURNAL

In Robin York’s sizzling debut, a college student is attacked online and must restore her name—and stay clear of a guy who’s wrong for her, but feels so right.

When Caroline Piasecki’s ex-boyfriend posts their sex pictures on the Internet, it destroys her reputation as a nice college girl. Suddenly her once-promising future doesn’t look so bright. Caroline tries to make the pictures disappear, hoping time will bury her shame. Then a guy she barely knows rises to her defense and punches her ex to the ground.

West Leavitt is the last person Caroline needs in her life. Everyone knows he’s shady. Still, Caroline is drawn to his confidence and swagger—even after promising her dad she’ll keep her distance. On late, sleepless nights, Caroline starts wandering into the bakery where West works.

They hang out, they talk, they listen. Though Caroline and West tell each other they’re “just friends,” their feelings intensify until it becomes impossible to pretend. The more complicated her relationship with West gets, the harder Caroline has to struggle to discover what she wants for herself—and the easier it becomes to find the courage she needs to fight back against the people who would judge her.

When all seems lost, sometimes the only place to go is deeper.

Praise for Deeper

“York’s beautiful prose and vivid descriptions enhance the realism and impact of Caroline and West’s story. Deeper and Harder are sensual and profoundly moving. The books are told in first-person from both Caroline’s and West’s POVs, and I sat on the emotional roller coaster right beside them as West learns to hold tight to Caroline and embrace life to the fullest. . . . They are books I will cherish.”—Lea Franczak, USA Today

Deeper perfectly captured me. Robin York masterfully tells this story with the perfect balance in tone and realistic characters that I’m still thinking about days later. One of the best written New Adult novels, hands down!”—Cora Carmack, New York Times bestselling author of Losing It

“Bursting with chemistry, emotion, and heart, Caroline and West’s story will take your breath away!”—Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author of the REAL series

“If you’re looking for a story that is beautifully written but tackles a tough issue, a story that is filled with some swoon worthy moments and wonderful chemistry, a story that has some angst and sadness wrapped in a story of love and friendship, then you need to pick up Deeper.”—Fiction Fare

“It is very difficult for me to articulate all the things that I want to say about this book because I love it so much. . . . [It’s] scorchingly hot, and the chemistry between these characters is nothing short of explosive. If you’ve read anything by Ruthie Knox before, you know she can turn a phrase, but Deeper takes that to another level. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything where every single word holds such power. . . . Everything about this book is perfection—the words, the characters, the swoon, the boy. Just trust me and read it. I know you’ll love it!”—Steamy Guys After Dark

“If reviews could be one word this one would be beautiful! This book blew me away. The plot was heartfelt and realistic. The reactions were real. The emotions pulled at my heart strings. The characters were spot on. Deeper has the right amount of angst, drama, emotion, and romance. . . . I can’t wait for more of Caroline and West!”—BS Book Reviewers

“This is the kind of book everyone needs to read a least once. It’s beautiful, sexy, touching and sad and it’s everything I could ever hope for in a book. Deeper is by far one of my favorite books of the year and I know by the end of this year, it still will be fresh on my mind.”—Anna’s Book Blog

“If you’re looking for a spectacularly NA angst and friendship turned romance, with a fantastic plot, beautiful and deep characters, and are willing to invest yourself emotionally in a genuinely real story, get Deeper.”—The Book Hammock

Deeper blew me away. I was hooked from the first page. I laughed, I cried, I cursed and neglected pretty much everything while I finished it. Most importantly I cheered that York could take on a subject so serious and relevant, combine it with some truly unique and interesting characters, and end up with a book that was so engaging and emotional.”—Twin Spin

“What a fantastic read! . . . I loved how real everything felt, the talks, the overnight baking sessions, the uneasy emotional pull and push and even extremely hot sex. Add to it West’s family situation with absolutely no easy way to shed his problems, and Caroline’s fight to reclaim her identity, finish it off with a heart-wrenching ending, and you have one powerful read.”—Noctural Book Reviews

Holy wow. Robin York impressed me so much with Deeper. . . . Caroline and West’s relationship is as hot as summer. Maybe even hotter. There’s some serious sexual tension and chemistry here. . . . The romance is passionate and all-consuming and you can’t help but fall just as deep as Caroline and West did. . . . York’s story is extremely powerful and the writing is terrific. . . . Gorgeously gripping and sexy, Deeper is a book New Adult fans wouldn’t want to miss!”—Stay Bookish

“I would highly recommend this book to all of my romance junkie friends. . . . I’d give it more than five stars if I could!”—Reading Haven

“I was blown away by this story. . . . My heart ached at times during this journey, but the ending couldn’t have set up the next in the series more perfectly. I cannot wait for book two in Caroline and West’s story.”—Her Juicy Reads

About the Author

Robin York grew up at a college, went to college, signed on for some more college, and then married a university professor. She still isn’t sure why it didn’t occur to her to write New Adult sooner. She moonlights as a mother, makes killer salted caramels, and sorts out thorny plot problems while running, hiking, or riding her bike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down!!! January 28, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I cannot believe I was so lucky to get to read this book from Netgalley. Some times the books I read from there make me second guess why I check that site out. And then sometimes I get to read books like this. And it makes all the bad books worth it if I also get to read just a handful of really great books. I predict this book will be big. It's a 400 page book that I read in 24 hours simply because I had a hard time stopping it.

This is the story of Caroline who is a sophomore at college. She discovers her ex-boyfriend posted compromising pictures of her on the internet for revenge. Revenge simply because she broke up with him. She never did anything wrong. Wasn't angry at him during the break-up. She just realized their relationship wasn't going anywhere and made the mature decision to part ways. When you make it to the end of the book you learn that this is called Revenge porn and is perfectly legal in all states but one.

Caroline has big plans for her life and this is going to harm her in many ways. Caroline becomes a shell of herself. And then she runs into a fight. Not just any fight though. Its the guy who use to live across the hall from her (enter West) and her ex-boyfriend. And her ex is getting his ass handed to him. And then she finds out West was fighting the ex because of what he did to Caroline.

This book moves along nicely but without rushing things. I appreciate a slow smoulder. And at times I was laughing out loud. Caroline's inner voice is hilarious. She is smart and brave. And everything you want your female protagonist to be.

I read that this is Robin York's first attempt at New Adult. Well, she did it very well! I look forward to more of her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem February 2, 2014
By Lily
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just finished reading "Deeper" and I have to say that this book sets the standards high for what I will read next. It was so good that others books are doomed to fail by comparison. Lately it's been hard to find books that pull you in from the beginning and make you care about the characters. This one does that and more.

The storyline wasn't anything new, two damaged people meet and fall in love followed by the drama that ensues. What makes the story work though, is the beautiful writing; there lies the talent. "Deeper" is told from alternate POVs, each one a different, distinctive voice. Both Caroline and West are flawed, you go through their journey that starts from a "non- friend" friendship to deep love.

This book it's what the NA genre should be, it has all the elements to make the reader crave for more. My only complaint it's that I have to wait till July for the conclusion...GOD! My countdown starts now. I hope Mrs. York takes pity on us readers and releases "Harder" earlier, like...today.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't blow me away February 10, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
**2.5 stars**

Did you ever read a book that you wished you liked more because it is way better than others in the same genre? That is how I felt after reading "Deeper".

I mean, if I'm rating this up against books like the comically bad "Real", which is one of the worst books that I have ever attempted to read, then this gets 1 billion stars. However, that's not all there is to it. To rate this more than 2 stars I have to think a book is more than okay and this just wasn't for me.

To start, I found it extremely difficult to get into the story. It was slow and a bit boring and it took days for me to progress past 40%. I had to force myself to read on when I wanted to jump to other books. However, what I read I mildly enjoyed though it wasn't enough to keep me engaged in the story.

There are many positives to this book. Caroline isn't as vapid as other New Adult MCs and she seems less wishy-washy to me. The story isn't as rife with cliches as some other NA books that I have read. However, West was a different story. Though I liked him more than I expected, I'm so done with these "bad boy", pugnacious MCs. I feel like I've seen different incarnations of the same college-age male in all of these contemporary NA books. They are "misunderstood", they have to take care of their families, they do "bad things for good reasons", they are amazing in bed, and (of course) they like to punch their foes. When I first got a Kindle about three years ago, I went on a trashy reading streak of guilty pleasure Abbi Glines books. I feel like I got my fix of these types of books then and have since moved on to greener pastures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Probably my favorite New Adult novel so far October 13, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this. Yes it has a lot of the typical NA tropes - girl with trauma in her past meets alpha male who solves his problems with his fists - but this is the first NA I've read where that pairing really, really works for me, and not just on an "I recognize this is super problematic, but it's entertaining" kind of way. This is the first NA I've read in which I've read these tropes I've seen a million times and thought, "I believe them."

The first chapter of Deeper feels to me like all the justification NA could ever need for its existence. I absolutely love York's handling of revenge porn in this book, and the way you feel its effects down to your bones through Caroline's self-reflections, and the way she carries herself, and the way she describes how her thought processes have changed at the most basic level. It's the kind of skill we've seen mastered in great detail in YA, but for me, in NA, this felt like a first. But had this been YA, it never could've gotten as dirty as it needed to, and it would've been about how it would affect Caroline's college prospects. And if it were adult, it would've lost its immediacy, probably fallen through the cracks, and likely not reached the exact audience who needs to read it.

So why don't I mind the punching and the alpha male BS? Because of Caroline. Because Caroline spends chapters reflecting on how violence is not okay. Because Caroline goes out of her way to tell West that violence is not okay. Because Caroline delivers the message over and over again of where her comfort levels lie, and because in all the ways West is a jerk, none of them are entitlement to her body.

And okay, maybe because I also would've punched Nate in the face repeatedly.

In case you couldn't tell, I really liked Caroline.
