Pretty Strong Effort,
By Havikk (Martinez, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Deeper Visions (Audio CD)
I purchased this album thinking that it would have something of an atmospheric goth/industrial sound. While it did have those elements, there is also an underlying driving hard rock beat. If you are expecting this to sound like Fields of the Nephilim, you may be disappointed. The singer definitely has a growling raspiness not unlike Carl McCoy, but the similarities really stop there. The sound is more guitar oriented with GASP! even a guitar solo or two. The bass guitar rarely lays down as pronounced a rhythm as in the old FOTN days, but rather blends in more subtely becoming pronounced as needed to provide punch or drive at key points in the songs.
The one downside to the album is that it is a bit short. I'm not a huge fan of remixes. The two on the album are good for a couple of listens, but really I prefer the original versions. The album makes up by adding in a couple of videos, which are nice, but really I would have rather had an extra new song or two.
