James Hardway - Deeper, Wider, Smoother..., February 24, 2011
This review is from: Deeper Wider Smoother Shit (Audio CD)
James Hardway's first album Deeper, Wider, Smoother, Sh** gets re-released with an extra track, but even if you only have the original, it's still worth your time. It actually combines jazz and drum `n' bass, rather than putting a jazzy riff over a ruff drumline. "Upmarket Down River," for example, takes the horn and double bass and meld them into the rhythm seamlessly. Or listen to the crazy piano line on "Swing It" or the strings on "String Swingthing." "Hardwired" and "So Much Sadness" get a little more digital, while "Monique" gets semi-romantic. If you prefer flutes, then "Clive Goes Crazy" is the track for you. "Horns at the End" actually results in the hardest track being at the end, and overall, an exciting album.
