Review

The quality is there, the variety is there, the feeling is there. It fits together, and still gives me goosebumps while listening to some tracks. Pure is definitely one, but Halo is another one that combines everything in just the right way to be simply perfect. If you like a fusion of electronica, ambient, with a pinch of world music, definitely do check out the previews. --http://www.electronicmusicworld.com

Mystical Sun is an adventure into new sound worlds, the world of the atmostronica sound. The music is lush deep and serene at any tempo as the music dilates time. The attention to detail and subtleties in every song will reveal new aural treats with each listen. --http://blueorb.wordpress.com

This is the second full length release from Mystical Sun, coming in the wake of a huge number of compilation appearances. The music arises from the capable hands of California based musician Mystical Sun supported by the voice of Dawn, and is released in this instance via Cyberset Records. Promotional material explains that "Mystical Sun is an artist who creates cinematic sound worlds. He uses a wide array of audio sources in his productions and builds his own custom software instruments to explore the frontiers of sound design. The sound of Mystical Sun could be described as a deep and mystic tone emanating from a radio transmitter in a parallel dimension. Minimally expressed with a potent essence, Dawn is the vocals of Mystical Sun; leading one to their spirit's calling." --http://www.ephemerid.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/html/reviews40.htm#deeperworlds

Product Description

Deeperworlds is an inspired collection of downtempo tracks. This much anticipated new release from Mystical Sun is an expansive cinematic travelogue through a constellation of sound worlds, each filled with unique sonic forms. They are bound together by the common themes of vastness, transcendence, exploration, initiation, feeling and returning to the source of all vibrations. The songs on Deeperworlds grew and evolved into distinct styles and expressions over a period of about a decade. The result is a unique document of influences from life and electronic music evolution during that period. "I see Deeperworlds as composed of scenes from lost forests, black holes, ethereal dream space, ancient epochs and other worlds." - Richard (Mystical Sun) Upon arrival, "2012" announces the album with its expansive subsonic kick and journeys into an ethereal labyrinth of synthesis. Followed by "Blue Magnetic Ocean" - a symphonic hologram of flowing aquatic environments. "Halo" arrives at night with profound altitude and sublime depth. Just as you drift and begin to dissolve, a voice and a massive groove guide you to "Pure". Digidelic guitars return in "Cloudbursting", backed by a progressive bass rhythm as the firmament. We return to Earth with "7 Generations" evoking indigenous traditions, closely followed by "Ceremony" where the path leads to initiation. A venture to the "Ninth Sphere" transports us to a chilled hypnotic ambience. Then a feminine deity beckons us to travel with the Sun to be rebirthed in "Innerworld", while we transverse the Abyss. Bringing the energy down slowly into the void, "In Between Orbits" vibrates with a delicious dubby sitar groove. Having returned from the source, "Dragonfly" flutters past with the organic simplicity of nature. As the phase shifts, we float into the tranquility of "River Goddess". The elemental power of water is conveyed through serpentine vocals in "Waters of Life" and richly textured liquid tones. Upon departure there is "Ant

4.0 out of 5 stars Taking a journey..., February 6, 2008

If you visit the Mystical Sun page at MySpace, you'll see the label "Atmostronica/Ambient/Trance/World/Electronic." I suppose "atmostronica" is meant to uniquely identify the Mystical Sun sound, but I think Ambient, World, and Electronic make for good reference points. There are definite elements of Trance as well.

This work begs for a visual component to go with it; you can easily imagine the music supporting a stunning video. While the individual tracks are strong, there is the strong sense of taking a journey when you listen to "Deeperworlds" in its entirety - which I highly recommend doing with good headphones if you have the opportunity.

One of the first things that will strike you as you listen, particularly if you listen to a fair amount of electronica, is the uniqueness of the sound. Needless to say I doubt that the default factory settings on the synthesizers were ever used during the making of this recording. The sound textures are rich and the production is warm in spite of the wide sound vistas. For a good example of this just listen to the opening of "Ninth Sphere." The percussion ranges from a deep bass to processed layers of sound; pieces of the main melody are echoed in unique, synthetic tones. There is also an understated use of phase shifting. If the description sounds overly gimmicky, then that's because the words to properly describe the sound can be difficult to find. The track is both warm in tone and cool in its elegance.

As I listen to "Deeperworlds" I feel that I am discovering something new each time. Certain tracks, such as "Halo" which has appeared on several ambient compilations, immediately grab you, but even after multiple plays you notice something new. Other tracks such as "Innerworld" slowly nudge their way into your mind after repeated listenings. All in all a fine work and I look forward to the next Mystical Sun release.

Great music to put in your library, and use it for 'easy listening' while you need to work, need some music, but don't want to be distracted by it. Nice to listen to in the background, and relax!

5.0 out of 5 stars No disrespect to Vangelis, but if Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" needed an alternate score, this would be it !!!, April 6, 2011

Considering my above Blade Runner comment, this album would also make great theme music for Rutger Hauer's character from that film. I put this cd on one late night after receiving it and... DAMN!!! This is the best thing I've heard since Jon Hassell's Power Spot (1986) and reminds me of my experiences in Mumbai, Maharashtra (India) at night some years ago. I even purchased the other work, "Inner Mind Consciousness", which harkons back to some of UNKLE's projects and Massive Attack's (now classic) Mezzanine (1998). My favorite song from this album is 2012...so check it out and enjoy; highly recommended. Multithanks.
