Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a WINNER !, January 10, 2004
This review is from: Deer Hunter (Video Game)
I had been waiting with baited breath for this, and I cannot reccomend it highly enough. It has the best outdoor graphics I have seen on a PS2 and the levels are HUGE! no little valleys and then loading here... Just one load and you can explore a huge level hunting for deer, moose, even mountain lions and bears. There are little critters like squirrels and raccoons for target practice. The atention to detail is incredible. Leaves fall from the trees in the fall and the animals kick up dust and splash as they run through water ! The vehicles are very easy to control, actually being useful as opposed to a liability. The weapons are great and replicate the real world weapons very well. The fact that the designers included a split screen two player mode is a first for hunting games and is a worthwhile addition. I have a great time playing with my friends, as we hunt down animals in torney mode. The online is astounding. The other hunters appear exactly as you set them up and instead of the weapons just appearing their hands when you change them, the hunter actually reaches back into his pack and gets out the new weapon. Stalking through the woods for a prize buck and then spotting someone 100yds away sighting in on YOUR buck is a real rush as you try and bag it first. The AI on the animals is great and they are hard to kill! The graphics on the animals are great and the trophy room is presented as a museum style with all of your animals presented in brilliant dioramas ! All in all a very polished game and the only one you should get for PS2

LET'S KILL SOME FURRY LITTLE WOODLAND CREATURES!!!, January 30, 2004
This review is from: Deer Hunter (Video Game)
Usually the only type of games I play are racing / driving games. I don't know what made me buy this game ( I've never hunted in real life, am a pacifist and hate killing ), but I am very glad I did because this is a very enjoyable game. I think the graphics are great, the hunting lands are quite big and full of wonderful furry woodland creatures to slaughter.
You can chose from bows and arrows, rifles, and shotguns and hunt in 8 different locations. The animals you can "bag" are many varieties of deer, elk, moose, black bears, brown bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, bighorn sheep and, although they are non-game animals, rabbits, foxes, wolves and opposums.
When you first start the game you can hunt in only two places, you must hunt in season mode and do certain things to unlock additional areas. It is a blast to do and I enjoyed it a lot. You can hide in a blind and wait for your prey to walk by and kill the unsuspecting critter or take to the trees in a tree stand and kill whatever walks below your perch. It's great!
The game is rated T for teen because of "blood and violence" the box says. Well, I've done quite a bit of hunting the past two days and while there has been considerable violence I've seen NO blood.
So, if you don't mind a little senseless slaughter and want to experience the thrill of the hunt in the comfort of your own house, this game is for you. So come on, let's go hunt Bambi and Smokey and Bullwinkle and friends, you'll have a great time. I'm not kidding!
ADDENDUM: Since writing this review I've played this game some more and have now noticed there IS blood in the game. When you do not kill your prey but only wound it, it runs off and eventually dies but leaves a trail of blood on the ground for you to follow. Adds even more realism to the game I think. -George Bauch.

My boys love the split-screen play & no waiting for loading, February 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Deer Hunter (Video Game)
My boys play this game all the time. They love it. This game looks much better than all the other hunting games we have tried. Finally they can both play at once and I don't have to hear them fight over who gets to play. The hunting areas are really big and the game doesn't stop to load all the time like the Cabela games. Also, you are not surrounded by mountains or feel like you are hunting animals trapped in a bowl. This is as life like as it gets. The animals look and move very realistically. Your character also doesn't get tired all the time which is another thing we hate about Cabela games. This is the real deal.
