Deer Out is a dual-deterrent deer repellent that works both by smell and taste. Deer find the strong peppermint scent of Deer Out deer repellent too strong of a sensation for their sensitive noses. A deer's sense of smell is 1000 times greater than that of humans. Deer Out deer repellent strong peppermint scent creates a cool menthol burning sensation that deer are repulsed by. (Deer Out deer repellent has a fresh minty scent to us humans, sort of like a peppermint patty.) But even long after we can't smell it anymore, Deer Out deer repellent is still too strong for the deer's nose. No need to worry though. Deer Out deer repellent won't harm the deer at all. But it will stop them from eating your plantings. Deer Out's combination of ingredients creates a very strong flavor and smell that deer find unappetizing.

Deer Out is made from ingredients similar to what's in other deer repellent products, like Liquid Fence, and works as well or better, at least in my experience, and seems not to need to be reapplied as often either. The big difference? Deer Out does NOT stink to high heaven. It mostly smells like mint which, believe it or not, deer seem to hate as much as or more than the horrible putrid stuff in the products like Liquid Fence. My only question is why local retailers near me do not stock this stuff. I will willingly pay a few extra bucks to avoid the horrendous, putrid smell of the other repellents.

Our communities urban deer problem came to my perennial garden with a vengeance this summer. My price hosta were nearly wiped out. At the advice of a local garden expert I tried Deer Out after failed attempts with other products. So far so good. The deer have not been back.

I've used Liquid Fence for a number of years with great success but my family and friends have always made fun of the awful smell that lasts for about 1 hour after spraying - so, I have given Deer Out a try because it really does smell good - very minty and fresh! Unfortunately, I feel it does not work as good or as long as Liquid Fence - from my limited experience. My experience is limited because I've gone back to picking the LF from my shelf when I need to spray.
