Product Description

Plantskydd is a natural product that is not harmful to animals or the environment, and contains no synthetic additives. The substance--which repels deer, elk, moose and rabbits by way of odor, yet is not offensive to applicators or planters--provides up to six months of effective over-winter plant protection against animal browse, and three to four months in hot sunny conditions. Animals will avoid plants treated with Plantskydd before they bite, not after; and industrial foresters and wood-lot owners currently use the product to protect over one hundred million conifer and hardwood trees, including cedar, spruce, fir, pine, alder, birch, larch and poplar. Protects approximately 100 plants 1 ft. high. Due to changes in shipping regulations, we cannot ship this item to California.

I have tried about every product out there but this is the only deer repellent product that really works. I have a 5' Golden Hinoki in the front yard that I call my "deer lollipop" because it is the first plant the deer go to as the winter sets in. I had to replace this little tree 2 consecutive years because the deer browse was so severe. Last fall I applied Plantskydd in a last ditch effort. With the first snow came the deer tracks, very interesting deer tracks. The deer ambled up to the lollipop tree, took one sniff, and bolted off in another direction. Over the whole winter I could not find a single bite out of any plant treated with Plantskydd. One autumn application (with 1 or 2 good sunny days to dry) protected my plants the whole winter. I have used both the 1 qt premixed sprayer and the 2.2 lb concentrate which I had to mix with water; both were effective in my yard!!

5.0 out of 5 stars No deer here!, November 5, 2005

Numerous brands of deer repellent sprays crowd the shelves at nurseries and garden stores. Here in our small Montana town bordered by wildlands we have a significant urban deer population and the most effective (by far) repellent that I've used is Plantskydd. OK, granted, it doesn't smell as sweet as those prissy mint sprays and you need to be aware of which way the wind blows when you apply it as a little of the organically-based, potent smell goes a long way on skin and clothes as well as plants. In short, it smells really bad (to my human nose) for about a day after an application, but it works really well at repelling deer for weeks. My nurseryman says the smell makes him wretch. I think he is a whimp, but his response is a good indicator of how effective it will be on other mammals. The effective ingredient is pigs' blood in a vegetable oil binder that keeps the product from being quickly washed away by regular watering. The pigs' blood works by emitting an odor that animals associate with predator activity and stimulates a fear-based response which will have deer (elk, moose, opossum, and rabbits, too) looking for somewhere else to dine. I typically spray the product on the mulch or soil at the base of my plants to keep it from discoloring leaves. The product was originally developed in Sweden for use in tree plantations that were being decimated by mammals.

3.0 out of 5 stars It really works, but..., May 1, 2010
This review is from: Deer Repellent: Plantskydd 32 oz Ready to Use (Kitchen)
I just started using the Plantskydd deer repellent this year--BEFORE all my plants got eating again, thank goodness. It works like a charm, and there has been no need to re-apply it in the 2 months I've been using it. The problem I have is that the spray nozzle gets clogged very easily, and all you get is big globs of the stuff. Even after thoroughly washing the spray mechanism, it will only spray once or twice before it clogs again. Not much good if you can't actually apply it to your plants!
