Get off the diet rollercoaster!,

This review is from: Dee's Mighty Cookbook: Tasty Cuisine for Flourless and Sugarless Living (Spiral-bound)
Dee's Mighty Cookbook is a common sense guide to improving your health through better eating habits, using foods that do not contain hormones, pesticides and other additives and in the process bringing your weight to a healthy level and keeping it there. Dee herself has maintained a 100 pound weight loss for over 13 years.Don't let the flourless, sugarless label scare you off. Dee's book encourages 100% whole grain flours, not the bleached nutritionally devoid stuff that is used in most of our baked goods. By sugarless she means using only natural sugars that still contain all the vitamins and minerals necessary to digest them properly. I have tried many of the recipes and have not found a single one that I disliked. Her recipe for McCaffrey's Yummy Irish Stew was excellent as well as the Vanilla Yogurt, Ezekiel French Toast, Dee's Mighty Muffins and her Mighty Herb Vinaigrette. I recommend Dee's Mighty Cookbook to anyone interested in finally getting off the rollercoaster diet cycle and eating for optimal health.

This review is from: Dee's Mighty Cookbook: Tasty Cuisine for Flourless and Sugarless Living (Spiral-bound)
I am almost 60 years old and I have been overweight for almost half my life. I gave up on diets because I would struggle through a diet and then gain back my weight plus more after the dieting. I also suffer from pain in my knees due to arthritis. A friend let me borrow her copy of the book and as I read it, it just spoke to me. It wasn't about dieting. It wasn't about not eating or eating things I didn't like. It was about making educated choices while shopping, while cooking, and while eating. I found the book easy to understand and apply to my life. Within one week of eliminating white flour and sugar from my diet, my pain was reduced and my energy and attitude were on the positive side of the scale. I believe I will lose weight as I continue to eat healthier but as for now, I am glad to feel better. Because of the things I have learned from this book my eating lifestyle will never be the same.

Healthy, delicious, satisfying lifestyle,

This review is from: Dee's Mighty Cookbook: Tasty Cuisine for Flourless and Sugarless Living (Spiral-bound)
If you have seen this book in a health food store, you may have dismissed it as something that would have you buying wierd and expensive foods and would involve cooking things only health food nuts would want. However, this book dispels all my misconceptions about healthy eating:Misconception #1-If I cook healthy, my family won't like it. When I cooked for my meat and potatoes family from this book, they loved it and there were no leftovers. I will say that my teenaged boy did eat a lot, so I would probably double the recipes for my family. Misconception #2-Healthy eating is low-fat or no-fat. This way of eating includes using more "fat" in cooking, but the fat comes from healthy oils most of which I had not used before. I am enjoying using these healthier fats, some of which add a delicious taste and great satisfaction and satiety to my eating experience. Misconception #3-If I cook from a book like this, I'm going to have to start shopping in health food stores and doubling my grocery bill. I started cooking from this book after one trip to my grocery store. So far, I have only gone to a health-food store for one item from my regular grocery store. The cost is more than off-set by purchasing fewer unhealthy processed foods. I will probably have to get a few more special items overtime and restock them periodically, but many grocery stores have most items mentioned here. I am finding some items are much more economically available online. Misconception #4-If I eat this kind of food, though the food will be good for me, I will feel deprived and unsatisfied when others around me are eating "real" food. Guess what--this is the "real" food. I feel more than satisfied after eating these foods and don't feel tempted by office snacks--even fresh, still warm donuts, chips or home-baked sweets. When you start feeding your body healthy foods, you will feel satisfied, energetic, and you will want to learn and apply more of the helpful information from this book. As far as weight loss, after 6 weeks, I have lost about 4 pounds; this is a lifestyle change, not a crash diet. Let me tell you about a typical day. Breakfast 1 piece of Ezekial French Toast and a half recipe of Dee's Mighty Breakfast (both recipe in book). For lunch, either leftovers, or perhaps some soup from one of the recipes in the book and a piece of fruit. For a snack I sometimes have a muffin using the recipe in the book minus the honey. For dinner I have a balanced meal, something healthy like one of the dishes in the book. Many days I often have a chocolate treat from the recipe in the book. Based on my level of well-being and satisfaction with the food, I highly recommend this way of cooking and living. You are in for a treat if you order and use this book!

This is a great book. It is not only a cookbook but an education about healthy eating. The author tells her story of how in order to lose weight she found a healthier diet based on eating no refined or processed foods. She also writes about the 6 foods that everyone should include in their diet. She recommends this way of eating for everyone regardless of whether their goal is to lose weight or just eat healthy. The cookbook has delicious and easy recipes for all categories of food from salad dressings to dessert. She even has a section of Mexican recipes. I recommend this book for anyone who wants to learn healthy eating habits. This book will open your eyes to what has happened to the American diet and why so many Americans are fat and have chronic health conditions. I hope she will publish more books. I will buy every one of them! She really knows what she is talking about by being both an organic chemist and a diet counselor. This bok should be required reading for every who eats!

A 'mighty' book all the way around,

This review is from: Dee's Mighty Cookbook: Tasty Cuisine for Flourless and Sugarless Living (Spiral-bound)
This recipe book is now a mainstay in my kitchen and I use it daily. I've been on a number of sugar/flour free diets but didn't stick to the blah way of eating via the recipes from those plans. Dee's recipes are anything but blah in my opinion and the information about nutrition are invaluable for me as well. Even my two year old eats the meals I make from Dee's book and we both love dee's mighty muffins! I feel good knowing that I'm feeding my toddler wholesome healthy food along with eating it myself. I highly recommend this book.

I purchased Dee's cookbook after hearing several of Dee's podcasts through her website. I have gleaned so much information about nuitriants in food and how harmful sugar and processed food is to our bodies. I started Dee's food plan a month ago not only because I am overweight but because my right hip and back hurt so much I had trouble sleeping. In order to climb stairs, I need to take them one at a time. Today my pain level is down probably 80% and I have lost 12 pounds. Following the food plan isn't hard, it just takes preplanning and a desire. The recipes are very tasty. Dee writes well and shares her life experience having lost 100 lbs. 14 years ago. I like the fact that Dee is a chemist and nuitritionist. She really knows her stuff.

This cookbook has wonderful and easy recipes to try. The ones that I've tried so far have been very tasty and easy to prepare. The nice thing is that you are not giving up sugar and flour totally, just using healthier substitutes. The beginning of the book has Dee's history of her journey through weight loss. You won't be disappointed with this cookbook!

Instead of a power bar try Dee's Mighty Muffins as a golfing snack and also take them as travel food. Store in hotel refrigerator. No mystery ingredients, lots of variations, and it's fresh. Love all the turkey recipes. Even was amazed at the pumpkin pie with tofu as a good no-sugar substitute for my favorite Thanksgiving treat. Used the nut paste for the pastry which turned out a bit crunchy so use the top rack. The yogurt frozen fruit bars are a favorite with my daughter. Stevia took some searching to find and is a good natural sugar substitute without being a carcinogen. Substituted soy milk and found it worked well. There are some staple recipes in this book that made it worth the price. Next I'm trying the chocolate desert. Vicki

I went to a free seminar that Dee and her husband offered at a healthfood store in my town. She speaks from real life education and experience. I found myself unable to put the cookbook down because it has so many interesting facts and details that should be so simple but sometimes the rest of the world makes too much out of something and simple things get buried. This book is VERY EASY to add to my everyday life, the recipes are easy to follow and ingredience that don't require a foreign language to understand. I can't wait to be another success story by following Dee's plan.[...] |
