A Good, But Not Great, Game Collection,

I don't think I learned anything about how to defeat a superior opponent from this book, but I can still recommend it as a well-annotated game collection. The only problem I had with the book, other than the fact that there was little elucidation of the problem of defeating a superior player, was its choice of illustrative games. All of the games are victories by non-Soviet players against Soviet players. In each case the "superior" player is the Soviet. Never mind the fact that the "inferior" player may have a higher rating than his supposed superior. If you didn't buy the book because you thought it would improve your chances of beating stronger players, but merely wanted a good collection of annotated games by a good writer, you won't be disappointed.
