Book Description

May 17, 2004
Temporary worker Kyle Shannon is driving to a new assignment when she spills her coffee and finds herself stained...by murder.

Kyle's current job is to manage the customer service department of Drip Not Paint Company. When she tries to help out her new colleagues by taking work home, her residence is burglarized and key Drip Not documents disappear. Suddenly, her routine temp assignment becomes anything but.

Confronted by corporate politics, deadly agendas and numbers that make no sense, all too aware that she's in the sights of a dangerous stranger, Kyle finds secrets several layers thick and generations old.

She also realizes that, in this family business, greed has no boundaries, her co-workers aren't who they seem to be and even the best quality control can't guarantee her safety.

More About the Author

Linda Mickey was so mad at her boss, she killed him. On paper. That first late night at the keyboard took her from mystery reader to mystery writer.

Like her protagonist Kyle Shannon, Linda Mickey was employed by a staffing agency. After a career in which she saw everything from knife-toting secretaries to drunken vice presidents, Mickey had plenty of motive to write a mystery series featuring a temporary office worker.

In her non-fiction work, she helps writers understand the business side of their creative endeavor.

She is currently employed as the office manager of a small accounting firm, dividing her time between tax returns and murder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery for us all!, July 26, 2006
This review is from: Defective Goods: A Kyle Shannon Mystery (Paperback)
Come on, when was the last time you read a good mystery? I mean the type where you have to think, there's no bloodfest and you care about the outcome? I thought so. Defective Goods is that kind of story where you want Kyle Shannon to stay as good as she is, but you want the crime solved. I especially like the characters, who are so real. Take some time to relax, curl up in front of the fireplace with a good mystery and enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Defective About This Fast Paced Read, November 27, 2004
This review is from: Defective Goods: A Kyle Shannon Mystery (Paperback)
The ink is barely dry on her employer's contract with Drip Not Paint when temporary worker Kyle Shannon finds herself having coffee with a corpse. And you thought starting a new job was tough! Hired to sort out problems with customer service, Kyle soon discovers irregularities in the family-owned business aren't limited to the inventory. She investigates, only to learn that, chillingly, the murderered man had been following the same trail and now his killer is stalking her.
This is Mickey's(Greased Wheels)second novel and she knows her territory. Filled with authentic police procedure and fascinating glimpses into corporate life where sexual intimidation, internal politics and greed become a deadly mix, Defective Goods is the ultimate "outsider-on-the-inside" novel.
