The DVR has an integrated hi-res LCD screen, which includes an LCD on/off switch for power saving. It also comes equipped with a 160 gigabyte Seagate hard drive, which allows you to store up to 40 days of footage. The Seagate HDD has been optimized for the DVR, allowing for faster speed and cooler operation.
This DVR is Internet Ready, which means you can view your cameras live from anywhere in the world! You can also play back recorded footage and adjust your DVR's settings over the web, which will give you peace of mind when you are away from your home or business. The web software is easy to install and is password protected, ensuring that only you can access your DVR.
This system comes with 4 outdoor CCD cameras. The high quality CCD image sensors in these cameras provide a clear, crisp and consistent picture. They also allow you to distinguish facial features, which can help in the positive identification of suspects. The cameras also have built-in IR night vision, which allows you to see in the dark up to 15 feet away! I purchased the system after our home was broken into. I installed it in addition to an alarm system. It gives us a greater feeling of security. Fishing the wires through the wall and attic was a bit of work, but that would be necessary with any system that is not wireless. Overall the product was very easy to set up. The picture quality is what I would expect for a security camera. You need to place the camera where one would come within a yard or so of it to get a clear image of someone's face, but that's really not too hard to do. My wife was surprised that the cameras did not negatively impact the aesthetics of our home (i.e., you can see them if you look, but they aren't overly obtrusive). I have purchased a router so that I can connect it to the internet and monitor it remotely.

This is a review more of the Merchant Seller then the product. Unfortunately for me one of the cameras would work. So I first tried to get a replacement but the Shop Tronics wanted me to return it under warranty, so I had to pay for all shipping back and forth and wait 3 weeks. Well it would have been cheaper to buy a new camera. Unfortunately Amazon's A to Z guarantee is totally useless, because your left to argue with the seller. They'll get me my money back eventually, but at what cost to you? I still had to pay out of my own pocket the cost of shipping this back, even after I was promised to be re-imbersed.
Anyway I hate it when people give bad ratings for the "seller" versus the product, but I know of no other way to warn people NOT to to buy this Shop Tronincs! They are horrible to deal with and unresponsive. If I were to rate the security system I would have given it 4 Stars. It was well made for generic stuff from China!

This security system is actually an old version of the discontinued SENTINEL1, which received varying reviews on Amazon. If you go to the Defender USA website, you'll see that this model (with a 160 GB hard drive) isn't even listed; a newer version with a 320 GB hard drive is listed. It's not a horrible price for an all-in-one unit, but you could spend the same amount of money and get something with newer technology, such as h.264 video compression, smartphone access, e-mail alerts, and a larger hard drive.
