I purchased the system after our home was broken into. I installed it in addition to an alarm system. It gives us a greater feeling of security. Fishing the wires through the wall and attic was a bit of work, but that would be necessary with any system that is not wireless. Overall the product was very easy to set up. The picture quality is what I would expect for a security camera. You need to place the camera where one would come within a yard or so of it to get a clear image of someone's face, but that's really not too hard to do. My wife was surprised that the cameras did not negatively impact the aesthetics of our home (i.e., you can see them if you look, but they aren't overly obtrusive). I have purchased a router so that I can connect it to the internet and monitor it remotely.

This is a review more of the Merchant Seller then the product. Unfortunately for me one of the cameras would work. So I first tried to get a replacement but the Shop Tronics wanted me to return it under warranty, so I had to pay for all shipping back and forth and wait 3 weeks. Well it would have been cheaper to buy a new camera. Unfortunately Amazon's A to Z guarantee is totally useless, because your left to argue with the seller. They'll get me my money back eventually, but at what cost to you? I still had to pay out of my own pocket the cost of shipping this back, even after I was promised to be re-imbersed.

Anyway I hate it when people give bad ratings for the "seller" versus the product, but I know of no other way to warn people NOT to to buy this Shop Tronincs! They are horrible to deal with and unresponsive.

If I were to rate the security system I would have given it 4 Stars. It was well made for generic stuff from China!

This security system is actually an old version of the discontinued SENTINEL1, which received varying reviews on Amazon. If you go to the Defender USA website, you'll see that this model (with a 160 GB hard drive) isn't even listed; a newer version with a 320 GB hard drive is listed. It's not a horrible price for an all-in-one unit, but you could spend the same amount of money and get something with newer technology, such as h.264 video compression, smartphone access, e-mail alerts, and a larger hard drive.

I have been in the electronics business for a little more than nine years. I've seen security systems come in many shapes and sizes, but rearly have I seen one like this.
Firstly it comes in a great package, everything you need is in that box amd my customers as well as myself agree that having to look for additionals can be time consuming. It is easy to install and the operating system is easy to use my fourteen year old daughter does the setup in minutes. The fact that i can backup to my pen drive is great and i can access the system from anywhere in the world through Internet Explorer. So because I'm away does not mean that my workers can play. I feel a real sence of control even though I'm elsewere, even my customes who have purchased this system from me think its great.

Over all it really bridges the gap for me I really do fell more secure since I've had it installed.

Nice unit but 4 cameras and 60 feet of wire each, had no crawl space to work with so had to purchase 4 more 60 foot extension wire set and run the wire around the outside of the house. Other than that easy setup the get thru your router or gateway (and will go thru a gateway connected to a multi-port switch)to have internet access to your unit. Recommend getting the install package offered by Defender.

great product for the money, easy installation. remote viewing is okay, not 100 percent, but thats probably due to the slow network that i hooked it to. cameras are clear and work well. if i had it to do over i would have gotten one with a little more space to hold recordings longer, but i have since adjusted the time schedule and changed the resolution so that should help. overall, for the money, you cant beat it.

The Defender DFDVR2 Ultra Compact Internet Accessible DVR Security System is a great value for the money. Basic installation and setup are simple; however, we have not tried to connect the DVR to our internet router at this time. Hopefully this is as easy as the hardware.

The picture is very good during the day, and adequate at night. All the camera setup features are a bonus and DVR storage is more than sufficient, even at the highest picture quality.

All in all, a very good system without breaking the bank.

This security setup was an excellent buy for the price. The all black setup hid well versus a white setup like some are. One camera was inop on installation but the team at shoptronics were more then willing and helpful to replace the camera under warranty. The unit works well as promised and you cant beat this system for the price.

This surveillance camera works perfectly and so easy to install...the built in lcd is clear...now i can sleep without worries...
