I have played around with video surveillance for my home for years which means I have purchased and installed a variety of cameras. My goal has always been to install reliable cameras that produce a fairly decent picture without spending a lot of money. I just installed my first Defender SPARTAN5 camera in my basement family room; it is a replacement for another camera (different brand) that died. The new Defender camera is fabulous. Crisp, clean picture, and the night vision works very well - especially compared to the previous night vision camera I had in the room. And, the price was right. There is a long cable included (probably 50 - 60') to connect the camera to my DVR. Once nice feature is that there is a set of male/female connectors right at the camera, which allows the cable to be disconnected from the camera during installation. Other cameras I have installed didn't have this which meant I had to be very careful not to damage the camera while fishing the long cable back to the DVR. The camera housing, base and swivel are all made of solid materials and are sturdy. The only thing missing is the ability to hang it upside-down for an exterior installation on the underside of a house eave -- it would have to mounted under the eave but on the siding. Great camera at a great price!
