The super octane by Nikko upon first inspection is a super sleek RC that looks like it could fly right out of the package. I was super pumped to try it out. So when I got it home and threw in a battery pack, that I already had charged, to see what it could do I was somewhat disappointed. It wasn't as fast as I thought it would be, but had plenty of power for fun. I called the Nikko company to see what was the fastest RC they made and the Super Octane is it. They boasted a 20 mph rating but I think they come up with this number by calculating wheel rotation and not actual ground speed. With a 100 dollar price tag Nikko should put more powerful motors in there RC's before they start claiming 20 mph speeds. The actual speed is somewhere between 10 and 13 mph with a freshly charged battery that last about 15 to 20 min, but still the Super Octane is fun to play with and did I mention that it looks really cool too. On a scale of 1 to 10 I rate this RC a 7 for speed, a 9 for durability, 5 for climbing prowis, 8 for fun, and a 7 for overall value. If the Super Octane was a bit faster it would have got a higher rating for speed and value.

very good off-road car, November 22, 2002

This car is a very good one. It goes around 10 miles per hour and is very durable. You can go over any terrain on this! Ice, dirt, mud, grass, stones, and anything else you can think of! The back end bounces on mine a little when I drive it on the road. That and the fact that it takes 4 hours to charge and it only lasts roughly 25 minutes are the only bad things to it. Also, it needs to be a little higher off the ground because sometimes it will get stuck on things. It is very durable and has lasted a long time and nothing has broken at all! Another improvement that could be made would be four-wheel drive to get out of some situations. I have a lot of fun driving this car and it is quality.

I am a 25 yo and have wanted an RC car forever, I finally bought myself this one and couldn't be happier. My buddy bought a NIKKO Chevy Avalanche at the same time and we have been absoltuely punishing these things. After several months they run as well as they did out of the box, and except for a few scratches they are still in great condition. To give you an example of the punishment they will take, we have been driving them down big flights of stairs, jumping 5ft down into an empty swimming pool, offroading in deep mud, and crashing them into each other constantly. Every time we race I think, 'this is too much it'll break this time' but it never does and we just keep beating them up harder and harder. They are pretty fast but 20 MPH is probably an exaggeration, although their speed is fine for what we want (ie. jumping over stuff 'evel kinevil' style) if you want a super fast car go with a gas powered otherwise these are FANTASTIC! Can't say enough about the durability. Thanks Nikko for a great product. 10/10
