3.0 out of 5 stars Silly Retro Cartoon, January 2, 2011

This review is from: Defenders of Dynatron City [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a cartoon that was based on a LucasArts game for the NES. It is, in a word, silly. There is a little bit of CGI in it (not plot-related) that is atrociously primitive, and most of the humor in this one is aimed at the younger crowd. This does not mean that there is nothing in here for older folks (like some of the evil Dr. Mayhem's asides, or a Star Wars reference). I do wish they had gone with the original voice for Dr. Mayhem, though. Apparently, Christopher Walken voiced him, and did a great job, but then the powers that be changed it to the far-more-annoying cartoon-y voice it has now. That voice alone seems to lower the target audience age by about 25 years.

Considering the show is only 22 minutes long, is in standard definition, and is only available on VHS (I guess we should be grateful it's not on Beta, huh?), I would advise against wasting your money. With a good enough Google search you can actually find the entire episode available for viewing on the Internet. And it is worth watching, given the amazing cast of Tim Curry and Whoopi Goldberg!
