5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book with Two Themes
Ken Agori has written a provocative novel that captures your attention from the start. The initial plot about a New England school teacher on summer vacation on Nantucket is interwoven with a compelling story set during the Crusades. 1.0 out of 5 stars I agree--don't be fooled--NOT a quality book.
The inappropriate, and unnecessary, foul language and romping sexual adventures detract from what might have been an interesting topic and an interesting writing style (similar to Nevil Shute's in 'An Old Captivity,' 'The Rainbow and the Rose,' and 'In the Wet.') The book is bothersome to read, what with its short, choppy, 4th-grade reading level sentence structures...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book with Two Themes, July 18, 2000

This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
Ken Agori has written a provocative novel that captures your attention from the start. The initial plot about a New England school teacher on summer vacation on Nantucket is interwoven with a compelling story set during the Crusades. All of the characters in both stories are beautifully drawn and developed. The discovery by Elise, the teacher, of ancient manuscripts leads into the Crusade story. After the documents are interpreted, a string of sudden deaths (murders?) occur. The reader is fascinated as one story moves from Nantucket to the Cape to Maine, while the Crusade story goes from France to the Holy Land. The transition from one time period to the other is skillfully accomplished. As the story unfolds the tie between the ancient and the modern is very smoothly done through the mesage in the manuscripts, an ancient locket and hauntingly beautiful music. To reveal more would give away the plots and this is a book you should read for yourself. Put it at the top of your summer reading list! If you enjoy a modern romance with suspense, a second fascinating story line, all beautifully written, you will share my enthusiasm for it. It will make a great movie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a break & follow Elise back in time, May 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
A friend recommended this book and I just loved it. This book has it all - excitement, intrigue, mystery, murder, and romance. As I read each page, I felt as though I was right there with Elise, hearing, seeing, touching all that she encountered. I especially loved being taken back in time to relive the lives of the "Defenders of the Holy Grail". I kept my faith in Katherine and when she lost her beloved Reed, I knew she would carry on. Elise became a modern-day Katherine and I could easily have read another 200 pages. I hope there is a sequel and would love a chance to watch "Defenders of the Holy Grail" on the big screen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Empowerment and Love, November 21, 2000
This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book. It presents women as real, warts and all. But the 2 heroines grow and soar...It made me cry. The songs add a very different tone. At first I didn't know what to make of them. Then I stepped out of my "novel box" and resonated with them! You will never forget this book!

The inappropriate, and unnecessary, foul language and romping sexual adventures detract from what might have been an interesting topic and an interesting writing style (similar to Nevil Shute's in 'An Old Captivity,' 'The Rainbow and the Rose,' and 'In the Wet.') The book is bothersome to read, what with its short, choppy, 4th-grade reading level sentence structures and its endless 'songs.' If you are truly interested in the ideas posited in this book, I would suggest Gardner's 'Bloodline of the Holy Grail.' It is a quite good read, is based on much research, and is a class act compared to this poorly-proofread (especially with to/too, + pg 50 and pg 120) novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love will survive, November 28, 2002

This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
Call now and order this book. It is UNIQUE. When I finished this book, I wanted more. Who is to say of Jesus was married? When church leaders allow priests to prey on our young but forbid them to marry we have spiritual leaders gone insane. I realize his editors probably chopped a lot out, as I believe he is a new author. I wanted to know more about the amazing characters. What a pleasure to have women as the champions. I have heard the songs and they are wonderful. I cannot wait until a brave director does the movie. It is a book in search of, as there is a lot of action but not enough for most men. Too much fo some women?

5.0 out of 5 stars Knights & love stories, interwoven into today, July 7, 2001

This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
I found this book very interesting especially because I enjoy love stories and history. In this book, the author takes you on a journey back and forth between a modern day adventure and an ancient one during the medieval crusades. The time travel is accompished by a modern vacationer discovering ancient documents! I found the story facinating.

By A Customer
This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
If you like romance and history with a mystic link to knights of the past, you'll enjoy this book. I was enthralled with the love stories that passed back and forth from modern times with the mystic link to ancient love story. The book kept my attention from the beginning. I could not stop. I stayed up late and read it in one night

In days of old when knights were bold...this novel brings Crusaders to life. Was their goal a kingdom of heaven on Earth? Who are the descendants of Jesus? Why does the woman who discovers this secret information become a target? Can she find the inner strength to survive? This book celebrates the everlasting qualities of love!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Women are smarter..., April 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Defenders of the Holy Grail (Paperback)
Who knows what really happened before the Crusades began? This book tells an interesting theory through two heroines. Both women are intelligent, problem solvers. They accomplish things on their own two feet. The books has now inspired a CD of songs. I believe Elfstone Oublishing carries it. There is a lovely wedding song included, from Katherne's marriage You will sing along!! There is love, and there are tests of this love, and trust, and acceptance.

This book kept my attention from the very beginning. It moves back and forth from the present day to the times of the knights. I enjoyed it more than the DaVinci Code.
