What Bessinger is really "defending," amidst the self flattering memories that he chooses to share, is what he considers his right to operate and profit from a racist chain of businesses, as a "king in his own kingdom" <sic>. For those who wrote about the persecution of Bessinger by "politically correct liberals" and made claims that he was wrongly painted with a racist brush, when he, in fact "does not dislike black people," I would ask why, then all of his barbeque restaurants refuse to wait on African Americans who unknowingly go there?

How dare the liberal media insinuate that Maurice is a racist? Of course he doesn't have anything against black people. That's why the US Supreme Court had to step in back in 1976 and force him to serve blacks in his restaurants.

Preserving heritage? Give me a freakin' break. The guy's not misunderstood, just a bigot seeking cover, nothing more.

I found this book by accident, while looking for books on civil war history. I bought it on a whim because the title sounded interesting. WOW! Its 10 years old and although the focus of the book is defending Southern heritage, there is SO MUCH in here that applies today in 2010. I think he even predicted the rise of Obama!

The info on the brainwashing in our colleges and schools re: Progressive Education/John Dewey alone is worth the price of the book! IF YOU HAVE BEEN BAFFLED FOR THE LAST 50 YEARS AS TO WHY THIS COUNTRY HAS HEADED THE WAY IT HAS, THIS BOOK WILL EXPLAIN IT ALL FOR YOU, SIMPLY AND SUCCINCTLY.

I went to his website and decided to buy some of his BBQ sauce too, to support him, because I am so grateful for the info he provided me in his book. (The sauce is pretty good, I found out!)

Maurice Bessinger exemplifies what makes me and so many of my fellow South Carolinians embarassed to admit where we are from. Thankfully many South Caroliniansthink he is a buffoon. I understand that this opinion is held by various members of his family who own a much nicer and smaller BBQ establishment.

But if you take his philosophy that "on his property a man is king" then Walmart and the grocery stores were certainly within their rights to stop selling his sauce. In the end Mr. Bessinger has to hold himself accountable for what he says and does. If he knowingly alienates a substantial market then it is no one's fault but his own. It is ridiculous how he choses to blame everyone but himself for the misfortune that has befallen him. None of the corporations that he rails against forced him to make a racist ass of himself.

Though I must admit that this book must be very important and highly desired since if you buy one you get one free at the Piggy Park. But then again I've not been there in probably 10+ years and I'll never let that man see one red cent of my money.

Left-wing America haters label those they disagree with as "racists". It is so unimaginative and tiring as to make their comments laughable. They do this with Maurice Bessinger because he is a patriotic American and it drives the left crazy. Maurice Bessinger happens to hold conservative views, many which have been intentionally exaggerated by the press and his detractors. Some in the press (mostly northerners) have maligned him because they don't understand Southerners and their culture. Bessinger has served our country as a combat infantryman while those who criticize his opinions have hidden behind their mother's skirts. Bessinger is an entrepeneur and honest, tax paying citizen. His restaurants provide excellent meals and service. I have dined with black clientele in his West Columbia restaurant and never saw or heard anything remotely racist. Unfortunately, self-righteous northerners that like to try and impose their values and cultural norms on Southerners just don't get it. Don't confuse them with the facts because they have already stereotyped anyone with a Confederate flag as a racist. Interestingly, NPR (not a conservative organization) just broadcast a story of a N.C. black woman who is proud of her Confederate ancestor and has a Battle Flag. She and Bessinger share a common heritage but she is now a "racist" because she is proud of her Confederate ancestor and flag. Bessinger has a backbone and sticks to the pride in his culture and heritage with no apologies. I have to admire him for that. His book is gutsy and tells of how he rose from poverty to economic prominence. It offends left-wingers because they find offense in anything that demonstrates patriotism, love of country and self-sufficiency.

South Carolinian, Maurice Bessinger, tells his life story, from growing up in the South during the Great Depression to his current stand for Dixie. He tells about his early experience in the restaurant business, his combat service during the Korean War, his life-long marriage and rasing his children, his political views, his success in the barbeque business, and his current and bold stance for principles of the United States Constitution.
When political correctness forced the removal of the Confederate Heritage Flag from the South Carolina State House dome and placed at the Confederate Monument on the capitol grounds, he protested by flying the South Carolina State Flag and Confederate Heritage Flag and providing Christian literature and the Southern view of the war Between the States at his Piggie Park Barbeque Restaurants in Columbia, South Carolina.
Political correct forces pressured scalawag Wal-Mart and several grocery store chains to remove his famous barbeque sauce and other food products from their shelves because of his political views and displays. His restaurants remain successful, but he has lost the majority of his wholesale business as a result of political correctness.
How many Americans today would jeopardize their financial security by standing for their principals? he is standing for what he believes in just as his Confederate ancestors did 141 years ago.

If you think our country isn't headed down the wrong path, think again! After reading Mr. Bessinger's book, *Defending My Heritage*, it opened my eyes to what has been taking place in this great country gradually over the past 5 decades. The American public should (and will) be thanking Mr. Bessinger for the many truths and facts that he reveals in his book. The myths and falsehoods that have been constantly drummed into us as children and adults is unbelieveable. Finally, at the risk of losing everything, Mr. Bessinger has opened the flood gates on the lies and deceptions of those who stand to prosper with the coming of a New World Order. I urge everyone to purchase *Defending My Heritage* and read it!

Mr. Bessinger begins his book by relating learning experiences as a young child, through his early adult life, and into present day. His thoughts, his experiences, and his knowledge is vast and genuine. A man of Christian values and morals, Mr. Bessinger stands for what is right...what is good...refusing to keep quiet in hopes of bringing about a return to Constitutional government for all people.

*Defending My Heritage* will make you think! A definite eye-opener for all Americans. A must-read!

Maurice tells it like it really is. I served in the Army and had many black friends. Maurice is not anti-black at all if you TRULY read his book. I've seen the low review about him and they are attempts by people to slander him and what he stands for "honesty and true Christian belief" without ever having read his book.

It's a shame what the left has done to his business but they can never destroy his Christian faith. By the way, I've tried his barbecue sauce and it really is the best I've ever had!

I'm sorry, but Maurice's defence is of a culture hopelessly tainted by racism. He is the sort of man who would have supported slavery and who did support segregation. He disgusts me.

Maurice! Leading us backwards!

If there ever was written a book which could galvanize Americans into resistance of the evils which plague us today, this is it.

Not a literary masterpiece, or even elegant, but a straightforward and honest explanation of where our country has gone wrong and what must be done to preserve our individual liberties.

We're certain there are more Maurice Bessingers out there, but they must stand with him and the rest of America to restore their God-given rights, and cast off this lock-step march into globalism.

Not only does Besssinger explain the southern view, but in ages past these views were the mainstream of America.

Strongly urge home-schooling parents to include this defense of freedom in their curiculums.
