5.0 out of 5 stars Skinny Puppy at their best!, October 22, 2005
I have not had opportunity to listen to this CD in detail but I bought it only for the Skinny Puppy track because it is great. I felt obligated to counter the only existing review. The track, "Ode to Groovy" is slow but has all the emotion and impact of any Skinny Puppy I have heard.

Hot dog! Looks like I get to be the first to state the obvious:

Chances are, if you bought, or are thinking of buying this compilation, it's to get one of the *exclusive* tracks. Personally, I paid the few bucks for Skinny Puppy, and figured some primus, and meat beat manifesto (not mentioned in the song lineup) would be a nice bonus.

And if you pay more than a couple bucks for which ever song you might be collecting
...you have my sympathy.

I love Skinny Puppy to death, enough even to almost feel bad for being a materialist, omnivore, etcetera, but `ode to groovy' is pure castration, Industrial Gods with filed down teeth, watered down blood, and elevator speakers. I don't know if they made this to be more `cohesive' or had it lying about as a warning against whatever chemical incident caused such a tragedy. They can make a `soft song' any time they wish, and ohGr has done so, and well, but listening to...that...I've never wanted to hammer a calf skull and vote republican so much in my life.

I find reparation only in the anticipation of the horror, the HORROR I'll see in the faces of my fellow puppy people when I make them listen to it.
(The clip...yeah, the whole song's like that.)

In any case: Pearl Jam sounds like Pearl Jam, Stipe like Stipe, the hippies (rock or folk) like hippies, and the rappers, yes rappers, remind us that 9 times out of 10 you can't use something `cool' to sell something meaningful. There are a few dance-ish tracks that I didn't instantly skip over, but sure as heck didn't return to.

Chances are your spare change would be better spent as a donation to Green Peace.
