5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have book for ALL of us!, July 4, 2010
This review is from: Self Defense Laws of All 50 States (With Plain-Talk Summaries Limited Edition Cover) (Paperback)
As a person with some formal training, I find myself more and more confused as to what I CAN and CAN'T do to defend myself in potentially bad situations. In fact, I think that if you feel like you already know enough about self-defense, then you don't even know enough to be aware of just how much you DON'T know.

This book is a great help in clearing out some of the most common misconceptions about what is and is not self-defense, as well as how each state handles things so differently.

Of course, no single thing will guarantee your safety... but with Mitch's book, I feel much more confident in my ability to make an informed, and quick decision if needed to protect me and my loved ones.

Keep yourself and your family safe AND stay out of trouble. This book will help with both.

The book is great because it shows you the actual legal code for each state and then gives you a simple, "plain-english" explanation of each part. Handy anecdotes and case stories are included to help clarify even further.

I was always taught that first step in overcoming trouble, is not to get into it in the first place!

So, get this book.

Up to date, interisting. Very frank, doesn't pull any punches. Writers have a sense of humor, some areas area a little dry, but for the most part interesting and informitive. It also covers domestic violence, and real cases and the consiquences of ones actions. A little pricy for a paper back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Self Defense Laws 50 States, November 29, 2010

This book is a must read for all law enforcement, civilian firearms instructors and anyone who carries a gun for self defense.
Although the firearms and self defense laws of the 50 states are very dynamic and change often, this author provides a sound foundation and template for your analysis of each states' laws, which facilitates your understanding of the impact of the changes. It also focuses on the "new" role our courts play in interpreting states' laws and thereby have a huge impact on the perspective and outcome of self defense related cases.

This book should be on the shelf and in the classroom of every CCW instructor. The laws can change anytime the state legislature is in session but this publication gives a baseline and a reference to the statutes so it's easier to research changes if/when that happens. This book also demonstrates how much the laws can differ between states.

It's an important guide and excellent reference for defense attorneys also. Buy it, read it, enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative Book, July 12, 2011
This review is from: Self Defense Laws of All 50 States (With Plain-Talk Summaries Limited Edition Cover) (Paperback)
This book is a great reference for when you plan on traveling out of state. Look up the laws of the states that you plan on visiting, and know the laws before you go. Or, as in my case, it might change your mind on the states that you want to visit based off of which states do not legally allow you to protect yourselves and your loved ones.
Stay armed.
Stay safe.

Having a concealed carry permit and travelling to states with reciprocity requires knowing where your boundaries lie. Especially interesting were some notes about coming to the aid of a person who is currently in a fight -- in some states if it's mutual combat and one of them pulls a knife or a gun if the soon to be victim was the aggressor and/or agitator you're in the wrong if you use deadly force to protect them from harm. This book is a "must own" for anybody who carries a concealed weapon.
