Great book for practical, everyday defense,

This review is from: Defense Tactics for Law Enforcement: Weaponless Defense and Control and Baton Techniques (Paperback)
Right from the beginning, this book explains in detail different moves for defense in real-life situations. The different methods are very clear cut with pictures to explain exactly what to do in that specific situation. These moves really work.

Nothing flashy,

This is a fine book for picking up basic stick fighting techniques quickly. Clear sequence pictures demonstrate solid moves. No hanbo here; this is hitting the bad guy with a nightstick to discourage him or take him down. But isn't clear instruction what we're looking for?

The techniques described on this book works because they are simple to learn. The baton techniques are also good, but, because this book was written before the adoption of PR-24 side-handled baton on law enforcement agencies, it covers only straight-baton techniques.

As a law enforcement defensive tactics instructor and a life time student of the martial arts, I found this book to be helpful and informative. Though I certainly do not agree with all the techniques presented in this volume; nevertheless, it does have some good advice and many of the techniques are sound and effective. Most of the techniques they show using the police baton are good. However, one of the areas I disagree with is the way they show wrapping the hand when using the baton. The other material in this book is fairly solid. In conclusion, this book is an excellent reference source when used in conjunction with actual hands-on training with a certified law enforcement defensive tactics instructor.
