5.0 out of 5 stars Defenseless
OMG!!! This book was dynamic. When I first saw the cover, I thought it was going to be another black novel filled with just sex scenes. Boy was I wrong. Adrianne Byrd kept me on the edge of my seat as I read this book filled with suspense, romance, and deception.

I read a variety of authors, everything from the classics to the new ghetto romance type novels. Therefore, I consider myself to be open minded when reading something new. Unfortunately, this novel was far from what I expected when I saw that the other reviewers had given it 5 stars. The plot dragged on for far too long. 5.0 out of 5 stars Sizzling romance meets non-stop action in this page-turner!, May 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Defenseless (Arabesque) (Paperback)
Ms. Byrd's novel brings together a true love story and a fantastic action thriller to make one of the most enjoyable books I've read in years. Few authors are able to weave such a strong story fiber from the seperate genres - but "Defenseless" is a fine tapestry indeed. Well Done, Ms. Byrd.

5.0 out of 5 stars This One Can't Be Put Down, April 6, 1999

This review is from: Defenseless (Arabesque) (Paperback)
This was one of the best books I have ever read. There was a perfect balance of mystery and romance. It kept me on the edge of my seat, so much to the point that I had to read it in two days. Between working, cooking, cleaning, etc. I picked this book up every chance I had.

Unfortunately, this novel was far from what I expected when I saw that the other reviewers had given it 5 stars. The plot dragged on for far too long. The two main love interests had so much fire that I couldn't wait for them to finally hook up but when they did the scene was bland. Why build up to nothing???? In addition the mystery aspect of it was beyond believable. I mean I know it's fiction but come on!!! Like I said, save your money. I skipped through the last few pages just to get the story over with because it was tired..... and I was tired of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definite Must Read, August 22, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Defenseless (Arabesque) (Paperback)
I couldn't put it down. Well developed, believable characters. Just enough suspense to keep you reading, and keep you interested, with some interesting twists without it being artificially or unreasonably drawn out. Sizzling romance. Some pretty good handling of the emotional issues without making it overwhelming and depressing. This one is a keeper. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Byrd's work.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not great but not bad!, January 9, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have enjoyed several books from Ms. Byrd but I just didn't like this one. Some of the law enforcement aspects of the case were not accurate. No one in their right mind gets shot at and stalked and refuses police help or refuses to hire their own security if they can afford too. Its like duh someone is trying to kill you and you dont want help. The female character was just mean and rude at times and not very likable to me. I didn't find myself routing for her like you should. At some point I couldn't read the book anymore and stopped and went back to reading it. If the female lead was not so mean from the start and Ms. Byrd did a better job of researching realistic police investigations I would have like it more. Maybe I'm hard on it because I'm a detective sergeant. Just my two cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner!, December 10, 2010

This book was fantastic from start to finish. It had just the right amount of suspence with a sprinkle of romance. This book originally came out in 97, so its funny to read about the characters and their beepers, and dropping quarters in pay phones. It really is amazing how far we have come. Ms. Byrd does it again, she is truly an extremely gifted writer.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good read, April 26, 2010
I thought this book was between pretty good and just okay. For me there were way too many twists to the plot. It kept going deeper and deeper. It was just pretty good for me. But I could be being biased. The previous book I read by her (to love a stranger) still has me reeling.

4.0 out of 5 stars "They're In This Together", October 4, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book was very interesting, it's not what I thought it would be. I really like Ms. Byrd's style of telling a story. You laugh, cry, and get pissed off. Every character is unique, and the plot grabs you from beginning to end. She doesn't disappoint.
