Book Description

The classic 'Bad Boy meets Good Girl' love story, with a bit of gang violence and mayhem thrown in for good measure.

19 year old Isaac Molina is fleeing from his past to a place that is as foreign to him as truth is to a politician. His journey takes him from the violent drug war streets of East LA to the buggy-filled streets of Lancaster Pennsylvania, where he meets 'Clarice' - the dream girl he didn't know could ever exist. The Cuban American teen soon finds himself running from a violent gang that has dogged his steps for years; this time he has the love of his life to protect.

A fateful moment comes when he must decide to continue to hide from his past, and betray his new love, or confront his sins and face the consequences. The decision will define the man he is to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised May 11, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not fond of bad language, but I know authors feel they must write as the character would speak, so I kept reading past the gang part. The Lancaster County part was familiar, and mostly believable (I live there). The story moved well, and I got into it. Was surprised by a few plot twists I didn't see coming. However, if the language is supposed to match the characters, I felt the author tried too hard to add big words at a few spots.

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable "bad boy" meets "good girl" story February 3, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I knew, more or less, what I would be reading from the book description. When I reached the end of the book, I reread the book description and sat back to think about it for a bit. The title of the book couldn't be more accurate. I found myself looking for those "definable moments" as I was reading.

The book opens with Isaac taking part in a robbery gone wrong. The security guard that wasn't supposed to be there shows up surprising Isaac and Sean, a fellow gang member. Sean attacks the security guard and takes off on the motorcycle they were there to steal, leaving Isaac to get away on his own. After Isaac makes it back to the house where they are to meet up with everyone else, he learns the security guard is in critical condition and may not live. The situation gets worse; there was an eye witness in the alley when Isaac fled the scene. An artist's sketch of him is all over the news. Once his parole officer learns of it, he's looking at going back to prison.

With help from the gang leader and his girlfriend, Isaac makes arrangements to leave East LA and relocate to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Taking his brother's truck and the stolen motorcycle, Isaac drives across the country to his new home, a new job and, he vows, a new life. Like all of us, Isaac has several events in his life that shape who he will be from that moment on. Some of these moments are given to us as the story unfolds. We learn more when he tells Clarice bits and pieces about himself as the two share stories getting to know each other.

Isaac isn't as free of the gang life as he'd hoped his new start would be when he sees the Thirteenth Street tattoo on his boss's neck. Clarice is the girl of his dreams, the one he never thought he'd be lucky enough to find.

5.0 out of 5 stars A different kind of love story! June 3, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A completely different kind of love story! I loved the combination of city gang life and rural, country setting. Plenty of action to keep the reader involved and on edge. The characters are realistically portrayed and the emotion of young love is heart-wrenching. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Best wishes and am anxiously awaiting your next book.

Once I got started on this book, I found it hard to put down. I have read one other book by this author so was looking forward to the second one. I was not disappointed. Again, I look forward to the next one.

More About the Author

Writing was something I dreaded as a kid. My hand cramped up and I tended to push down so hard on the pencil that I always broke the lead. Actually school in its entirety brought fear to my heart, I did, however, love English class in the 8th grade because of Miss Kelly. She was hot. It was the only time I got better than a 'D'. The only time I ever thought of writing as a possible career was a year later when I wrote a story that I was very proud of.

Ms. Gruber, a thick German woman with glasses that covered her entire face, began the class with "I think we might have a budding author among us!!!" She then went on to brag about how wonderful this amazing story was. My heart raced and my mouth went dry. I knew that any minute I would be standing up and entreated to 'share my genius with the class'. She even turned down my aisle, but she stopped two desks in front of my desk, at Dave's desk, my best friend.

Dave was tall. Dave was handsome. Dave was the forward on the JV basketball team - I was none of those things. But I've moved on from that - no left-over bitterness here!!!

Anyway, fast-forward twenty-five years later, and the advent of the PC. I began emailing back and forth with my good friend Kirk and he told me that I have a way with words - had I ever thought of writing anything? Well, I still hated 'writing' but I played around with a few things and found out that these little keys are magical. They take my thoughts and allow me to daydream like I used to all day long in school. I don't have squeeze a little stick of wood or plastic and push it around on a page and wait for it to break or run out of ink; the damned thing even corrects my horrific spelling!

I'm a fifty-one year old man who finally knows what he wants to be when he grows up. I've written two books and begun two more. If you'd like to know more about me, join me on Facebook at facebook.com/stphnsdb or search for the DB Stephens author page.
