Editorial Reviews

The Debut album from UK Soul/Rock Singer on Salaam Remi s Flying Buddha Records

"Liam Bailey fuses throwback soul, blues and dub. I fell in love with his sound." Anthony Valdez, KCRW

British soul/rocker Liam Bailey's long-awaited debut album, "Definitely Now," combines American R&B, down-home rock-and-roll, transportive psychedelia and blistering blues riffs into a deft personal statement about battling your demons and finding life-affirming joy in music. He sings with a raw expressiveness that has been compared to Bob Marley and Sam Cooke, yet his songwriting style references post punk bands like The Smiths and Oasis. Everything is woven together by a lean guitar-driven instrumental sound, perfectly framing Liam's lyrical and vocal passions. "Definitely Now" was recorded in New York, Miami and London. It was co-written and produced by Bailey, and executive produced by Flying Buddha label head and Executive VP of A&R, Salaam Remi.

Born in Nottingham, England, Bailey got his initial introduction to the music business via his friend, producer Salaam Remi. Remi introduced him to the late Amy Winehouse, who was so impressed with his music that she signed Bailey to her Lioness Records imprint and recorded 2 EP s with him. Liam has collaborated with a wide variety of artists including Rita Ora, Tom Odell and Shy FX. He co-wrote the Chase & Status hit "Blind Faith" which debuted in the top 5 of the UK Singles Charts.

Tour:
-Liam Bailey will be touring the US in the late summer/fall starting with a Central Park SummerStage performance on August 10.

Jimi Hendrix? Not really. Liam Bailey is essentially a soul man. When you hear this amazing record it is the voice that registers, that will stop you in your tracks. This is what Liam does. He sings. Rock, pop, reggae, blues, they're all here but cutting through everything is Bailey's incredible emotionally resonant voice: it is the rock on which he has fashioned an incredible debut album that refuses to allow him to be pigeonholed. Echoes of the great soul singers of the Sixties - Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding - are all here in the mix for sure, but the album's lyrics, melodies and arrangements tell us that as well as r 'n' b and soul Bailey has also been listening to Bob Marley, Small Faces, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Ben Harper, Nick Drake and John Martyn. This is what is so refreshing about 'Definitely Now' - it is a marvellously eclectic collection. It's groove is it unpredictability. This is a guy who clearly doesn't recognise musical barriers, he just embraces good music, good songs, great artists from across the entire musical spectrum - thus it frees him up to switch mood and style with utter conviction and consummate ease.
In a music world that so often fears to tread beyond the safety zone rather than take risks this is what makes Bailey and 'Definitely Now' such a refreshing journey. Utterly contemporary, ultimately timeless: a record imbued with a passion for what has gone before but infused with sense of adventure to create something fresh and exciting with which music fans right across the board can identify. It works because Bailey means it. Music, singing define him. Amy Winehouse recognised it, could hear it in his voice: Bailey is the real deal.

New and refreshing. I have listened to this album twice now from start to finish and there are so many great things about it, but heres a few. Unique voice and rich beats make this one a winner for me. He channels, in my opinion, everyone from Bob Marley to Jimi Hendrix.

One of the best albums I've purchased from a new artist in a very very long time. Musicianship is Excellent, vocals are totally outstanding plus the album has an excellent variety of moods . Truly solid performance. Starts out somewhat in your face and back half of album mellows with great soulful feels. The slight issue I have is the album is too long and would have flowed far better if he had left two songs off the disc. There are easily two weak tunes but mind you they are not bad, just not as good as all the rest and it just felt like filler to me when it wasn't necessary. This is a really strong album with excellent writing, good playing and especially great vocals. Liam has an exceptionally great voice. Goes from bluesish rock to great soul and both are excellent. I immediately got into the album but it took my wife about three listens to really get the high quality of this one because it starts out one way and slowly turns to another..... If you're looking for a new artist with a fresh sound, great talent and fantastic vocals, do yourself a favor and buy this one. Might take you a couple plays to be completely hooked or possibly you'll hear it right away as I did when I first played the disc. Your personal mood, stress level, daily situations, and so many other factors sometimes keeps one from liking a new album because you're not really open to receive something new at that point in time. I don't believe anything could interfere with you liking this disc, it is excellent !!!
