Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Ariel Schrag has been critically acclaimed for her work in Definition. Jennifer Joseph of The Bay Guardian said, Schrags perceptiveness and incredible eye for detail make Definition brilliant. Delving deep into the anxious heart of a 15-year-old's quest for self, this is the graphic story of her sophomore year and all the experiences - sexual, educational and musical - she must tackle before finding the 'ultimate score,' or truth."

5.0 out of 5 stars Ariel Schrag is the best friend I never had., December 21, 1999

I really liked the chapter detailing Ariel's sixteenth birthday. The stream of disappointments and sketchy guys is all too familiar. "Hank" thrusting out his pimply, veined hand and Ariel receiving it with tearful traumatized eyes made me cringe with empathy. I nearly wet myself laughing at the little boy who follows Ariel and Julia around the Laser Tag arena saying "I'm following you 'cause you guys are easy to hit!." That Ariel wrote Definition the summer after her sophomore year is a large part of what makes the book work; her enthusiasm and earnestness create a perfect sense of realism throughout.

I work in the publishing industry, and have been an avid reader of graphic novels over the past few years. Ariel's work has been amazing to look at. She deals with teenage issues with such originality. It is refreshing to get new insights and experiences into topics that often lack creativity or are afraid to take risks. Not this girl! I see a flourishing career in the future for Ariel. I had to run to three different comic stores in NYC to get my hands on a copy. She's become that sought after. WOW!

I could not put this book down. What I found so amazing about this book was that fact that she wrote it while she was experiencing it and you can really tell. Its just honest and hilarious. I can't wait to read the next one.
