5.0 out of 5 stars Mos Def and Talib Kweli Save Hip Hop, February 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Definition (Audio CD)
On this year's best hip hop album,Mos Def and Talib Kweli come together with DJ Hi-Tec to form New York City's Black Star. More than just another lame "Let's get jiggy" type of group, Black Star provides an album created to be mentally stimulating. Songs like the superb "Respiration" (featuring Common) and "RE:definition" put materialistic rappers to shame as Def and Kweli kick rhymes about spiritual elevation and not Versace and Prada. An album that should be in any real hip hop fan's collection, "Mos Def and Talib Kweli are Black Star" proves to be an excllant listen as to what should be the lyrical and musical standard for hip hop.
