More About the Author

I've spent the last decade immersed in the IT world in the capacity of a trainer, document writer, sysadmin and independent consultant and have found that this mix appeals to many aspects of my personality. Teaching keeps me on my toes answering questions and ensuring that my knowledge is up-to-date. In writing, I have a chance to give back to the community and to help make the learning curve easier for others. Troubleshooting in system and network administration is more addictive than any puzzle or game I've come across. And as an independent consultant I get to choose my hours and the jobs that interest me.

This is a good book for anyone who is just starting out with PC-BSD. I can't say that it has much in the way of advanced topics, however, it does cover the basics and where to go when you want to take the PC-BSD OS to the next level. I especialy like the section on how to install Free BSD software in PC-BSD, that right there is worth the cover price.

3.0 out of 5 stars PC-BSD Beginner's Manual., September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Definitive Guide to PC-BSD (Paperback)
This is a beginner's manual for PC-BSD. I did not find any useful information in it. Everything in it was freely available online. So I was disappointed that there was no programming information or more advanced information than just the very basic how to use PC-BSD.

I use PC-BSD on my Virtual Machine while I run the Debian Computer Operating System. It works fine; but I like Debian OS more.
