4.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best of the Spinners...& Then Some, December 15, 2007

This review is from: Definitive Soul (Audio CD)
This is really an expansion of the single disc The Very Best of the Spinners as all 16 songs from that collection are here (with a few variations; "Mighty Love", "Love Don't Love Nobody", "Living a Little, Laughing a Little", & "They Just Can't Stop It (The Games People Play)" are presented in their LP versions here). The rest of the songs ranch from being very good to barely likeable. Thankfully only a handful of songs are in the latter.

If you looking for an in-depth look at this group's stay at Atlantic Records, this is the way to go (mind you, only one song, "It's a Shame" is from Motown. There are CDs that cover the Spinners' years stay there as well.)

4.0 out of 5 stars The greatest group around, July 14, 2010

I am a big fan of the Spinners. Their music style cannot be matched by anyone. Phillipe Wynne (sp) was one of the best singers around. His voice had such a soul felt quality that it could make you cry. I could not get all of the hits that I wanted on this collection so I ordered another selection to go with it (Pick of the Litter)

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spinners The Definite Soul Collection, May 14, 2009
This review is from: Definitive Soul (Audio CD)

A truly awesome collection of the old school Philly Sound that I had missed esp listening to the latest type of music in the market, Thom Bell was a genius... If you want to enjoy old school jams I would advise you to buy this cd

I love the Spinners. But good material is hard to write. While not everything on this CD set is that wonderful - with a few of these songs being mediocre (but not the performances, their musical standard is very high) - the good stuff is as good as it gets in music, period.

These are the best ones -

It's A Shame
How Could I Let You Get Away
Could It Be I'm Falling In Love
I Could Never (Repay Your Love)
I'm Coming Home
Heaven on Earth (So Fine)
Easy Come, Easy Go
If You Wanna Do a Dance (All Night)
