The wooden box is nice, but every DVD is in a black unlabeled paper sleeve sitting loose.

When my husband had a knee replacement, he watched these for hours and loved them.

I bought this two days ago and I have seen 10 episodes in random on different dvd`s so far. For the price of this compilation of $44.99, I think it is a good bargain, first of all the video quality it looks like second copy but it still looks pretty good, the audio so far no problem. 95% of these episodes are before my time, just love these western episodes,so what I saw so far,it seems like complete episodes. I am more familiar with Bonanza series and the original music is missing, it has some other type of music but the starting segment is there like the burning map and so on just like the original series but minus the original music. So basically I am not sure for the other episodes original music though, but like I said earlier,it looks like the complete episodes. It has 48 DVD`s, a booklet which is impressive, it has a small bio on every series, the index you can look up either by Disc# for the titles or by the titles, which they are in alphabetically order and the disc # beside it, all comes in a nice wooden box. Overall I rate it, 5 stars, for the price, you have 600 episodes in a wooden box and very nice booklet, you just can not beat that.

I had looked forward to this large collection of westerns. It seemed, from the descriptions, to be the ultimate selection. Alas, it is not. Amazon has far better collections, albeit not as big as this one. Here, in my opinion, are the faults:

(1) The fragile wooden box broke before I could even get it open. The disks are in black paper envelopes with nothing to indicate the contents but the tiniest number and side A or B of the disk.

(2) The pictures and sound are considerably less than average. I realize that the equipment used in filming the original episodes was not as good as today, but other collections of material from the same era are sharper by far.

(3) Worst of all, the selection of material is not very good, not shows of the first rank of that "golden era" of TV westerns. Moreover, they are spread around separately in a manner that is unhandy for viewing. "Annie Oakley," for example, was not a first rate show, such as, "Gunsmoke" or "Have Gun will travel," which are NOT included. There are, however, episodes of "The Cisco Kid" and "The Lone Ranger," but NOT of "Rawhide" or "The Virginian." A few of the selections included hardly qualify as westerns at all, such as, "Sky King" and "Sergeant Preston of the Yukon." If you are fan of the lesser entries into the genre, the collection is OK, but I think most hardcore western fans will be more satisfied elsewhere.

Yes. i love this set. I already had the 300 episode set nd I found this for a pretty low price so i thought, for twice as many I'll buy it and trade my 300 set. There are many good shows on this and all of them are on the 300 episode set. What is frustrating is this. All of these sets are the same and do not have all of the episodes of some shows I want to get. It is hard to find all the episodes of say "The Range Rider" or "Bullafo Bill JR" or "Dusty's Trail." Why dont they just release all of the episodes? It is frustrating to have nearly all. But over all it is a good deal. and a nice box.

I bought this item as a gift for my aunt. She is a huge Western buff and this collection offered a number of TV shows that you just don't see anywhere anymore. The 3 stars are for the selection and variety of shows. The first time my aunt opened the wooden "collector" box, it split and broke in multiple places. I was able to glue the box back together and added glue to all the seems (which should have been done at the factory). When I returned the box, she informed me that several (I think 6) of the discs had no labeling or other identifying marks. She used a sharpie to mark the contents.

If I had purchased this for myself; I would have returned it. My aunt was willing to deal with the flaws.

As far as the quality of the DVD's; it is what you would expect from having been pulled from old TV shows. Some are grainy with fair audio, and some are of very good quality video and audio.
